The Academic Assistant Program provides tutoring to students attending courses at MSUM. The goal is to provide tutoring for as many requests as possible based on budget constraints and tutor availability.
The goal of the AAP is to provide a continuous learning environment in which students agree to meet with their tutor twice a week in groups of up to three students with one tutor.
Students who provide tutoring through the AAP are recommended by the academic departments and receive ten hours of training that has received International Tutor Certification through the College Reading and Learning Association.
Complete the tutor request form available in the Academic Support Center in Flora Frick 154.
Tutoring groups are formed at the beginning of the semester. If you think you might benefit from tutoring we suggest you sign up early. You can sign up as soon as you register for the class or anytime throughout the semester. As we near the end of the semester tutoring spots may be limited.
The Academic Assistant Program provides tutoring for a variety of courses. Check with the ASC when you complete the tutor request form. If we do not have a tutor for the course you request we will notify you.
Tutors are assigned on a first come first served basis and are also based on your availability and the availability of the tutor. If you have limited hours available for tutoring it may be difficult to match you with a tutoring group.
You will be notified by email when you are assigned to a tutor. You will receive the time and location of the tutor session, and tutor's name and email. If you have not received an email with your tutoring assignment within four business days of the start of the semester or from when you signed up if it is after the semester has started then please contact the ASC and we will check on the progress of your request.
If you cannot make a tutoring session contact your tutor prior to the start of your session. If you miss two tutoring sessions without notification you will be dropped from tutoring and your spot will be given to another student.
Please notify your tutor or Janet Sundquist at firstname.lastname@example.org if you no longer need tutoring services.
