  • What is a disability?
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) the definition of a disability is a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, a record of such impairment, or being regarded as having such an impairment. The most commonly described disability categories include:
Physical - affecting mobility or dexterity
Intellectual/Cognitive - affecting ability to learn
Psychiatric/Psychological - affecting mood or thinking processes
Sensory - affecting the ability to hear or see
Neurological - resulting in the loss of some bodily or mental functions

What is a Temporary Impairment/Health Condition?
A temporary impairment/health condition may arise from injury, surgery or a short-term medical condition, such as pregnancy or a broken wrist. You can receive assistance for a temporary health condition by submitting a doctor’s note to our office indicating the type of condition, limitations, prognosis and estimated duration. Additionally, you should contact all instructors to discuss the means of completing your class requirements and exams during the period of the condition.
