University Studies

The Bachelor of Science in University Studies is intended as an option for the following students:

  1. A student who wishes to develop a multidisciplinary major built around a chosen theme,
  2. A student who wishes to complete a generalist degree


  • 42 credits of LASC
  • 15 credits minimum (30 total) from two of the following areas of emphasis
  • 48 elective credits
  • 30 credits of the degree program must be at the 300-400 level
  • Minimum GPA in each emphasis 2.0
  • One writing intensive course at the 300 level from one of the areas of emphasis
  • A portfolio or essay addressing the following
    1. Demonstrate foundational knowledge of theories and perspectives in a variety of disciplines
    2. Compare and contrast the basic methodologies of multiple disciplinary areas
    3. Effective written communication
  • Other university graduation requirements

Areas of Emphasis

  • History and Social Sciences (History, Pol, CJ, Soc, Econ, Anth, Psy, Geos--Geopraphy)
  • Arts, Humanities, and Communication (Music, Film (including Animation), Art, Communication, English, Any language courses, GCOM, GDES, PHO, Woman Studies)
  • Natural Sciences (Biology, BCBT, Astronomy, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Geos--Geology)
  • Professional Studies (ACCT, BUS, CSIS, CM, CNSA, ED (including any education related course), EECE, EIT, HLTH, ENTR, FINC, HSAD, LEAD, MGMT, MKTG, NURS, OM, PMGT, PE, STL, SW, SLP, SLHS, SPED, SLP, SLHS)

The list of rubrics included after each emphasis is not meant to be exhaustive, but illustrative of which rubrics will belong to each emphasis. The intent of the program is to be inclusive of the rubrics offered at the university.
