Study Education Abroad in Norway

Our study abroad course offers an overview of the education system in Norway, situated in the larger context of Scandinavia, with a focus on school philosophies and structure from early childhood through university preparation level. Students will also explore school governance which varies greatly from school governance in the United States. Finally, students will have the opportunity to experience Norwegian culture and geography as we visit and explore the southern part of Norway, including Oslo, Kristiansand, Bergen and Stavanger.

  • Dates of Travel: Saturday, May 13, 2023 - Sunday, May 28, 2023
  • Estimated Cost: Approximately $2,600 per student; students will also have the cost of their airfare.

Sample Study Education Abroad in Norway Itinerary

  • Day 1:
    Departure to Norway
  • Day 2
    Arrive in Oslo, Norway
    • Transport to housing: Hotel Bondeheimen
    • Evening meeting at the Hotel
  • Day 3
    Sightseeing in Oslo
    • Welcome Dinner in the evening at the Hereford Steakhouse
  • Day 4
    Depart by Train for Kristiansand at 4:25 p.m. (arrives approximately 9:00 p.m.), Train ride is 4.5 - 5 hours, Settle into Housing at YESS Hotel
  • Day 5
    Meet with University of Agder faculty
    • Highlights of the University
    • Orientation to our lectures and school visits
    • Cultural protocol
    • Lunch with faculty and students
    • Highlights of Nordic education system
    • School governance
    • Overview of higher education system
  • Day 6
    Full day visit to Norwegian outdoor school
    • Lunch with teachers and students
    • Debriefing meeting at the end of the day
  • Day 7
    Full day of school visits
    • Technology school
    • Special needs school
    • Secondary school
    • Lunch in the schools
    • Debriefing at the end of the day
  • Day 8
    Explore Kristiansand
  • Day 9
    Explore Kristiansand

    Student will work in the teachers lab today
    • Exploring the arts

    University of Agdar
    • Debriefing
    • Goal Setting
    • Awarding of certificates of study from University of Agdar
    • Celebratory Lunch at University

    Depart Kristiansand for Stavenger at 4:30 p.m.
    • Train ride takes about 3 hours
  • Day 12
    Cultural exploration of Stavenger (excursion day)
  • Day 13
    Ferry ride to Bergen leaves at 7:00 a.m. (about 5 hours)
    • Check into housing in Bergen, Augustin Hotel
  • Day 14
    Exploring Bergen (excursion day)
    • Celebration dinner in the evening
  • Day 15
    Explore Bergen
    • Leave by train around 2:00 p.m. for Oslo (about 7 hours long)
    • Check into Hotel Bondeheimen
  • Day 16
    Depart from Oslo
