  • High School Apprentice Program Information

Thank you for your interest in our Straw Hat Players Summer Theatre Internship/Apprenticeship Program for high school juniors and seniors. This summer will be our 50th theatre season, and we expect it will be one of our best and most exciting. We hope you will apply.

High school interns/apprentices are selected annually to join our company of performers and technicians. Interns/apprentices will have the opportunity to audition for roles in the productions and to participate in construction, lighting, make-up, costumes and sound crews. The company meets for morning, afternoon, and evening activities seven days a week during this period. This extensive theatre experience permits professional-level stage training. Our facilities include two theatres—an 850-seat proscenium stage and a 300-seat thrust stage. Attendance at Straw Hat productions exceeds 18,000 theatregoers per summer. We think it is an ideal program for high school and college theatre students.

Our internship/apprenticeship program is open to high school students who are currently juniors or seniors. Apprentices are paid a modest stipend, while interns are not. Arrangements can be made to stay in our supervised college dormitory. Company members could also live off-campus in homes of relatives or friends. The campus offers ala carte meals at reasonable rates during the summer months. Several restaurants are located near the campus.

If you would like to be considered for a 2013 Straw Hat Players Summer Theatre Intern/Apprenticeship, I encourage you to participate in the 2013 Regional Auditions. For additional information, please contact Craig A. Ellingson at craig.ellingson@mnstate.edu or via phone at 701.388.9382
