With countless activities and events happening at MSU Moorhead throughout the year, there’s never a dull moment on campus. More than 120 student organizations, clubs and special interest groups offer the chance for everyone to get involved.
For real-world, hands-on experience, students can take a turn in the DJ chair at KMSC Dragon Radio, write for The Advocate, the award-winning weekly student newspaper, or feed their political aspirations by running for Student Senate. The university’s acclaimed Dragon Entertainment Group hosts dances, workshops, concerts, talent shows and the always-packed Dragons After Dark late-night activities. There’s also a plethora of events to celebrate cultural diversity, including Black History Month, Woodlands and High Plains Powwow and Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration.
Whether it’s for fun, fitness or friendship, students participate in a variety of team and intramural sports—everything from flag football to soccer and basketball to broomball. MSU Moorhead students take enormous pride in the university’s athletic teams, cheering on the women’s Dragons basketball, softball and soccer teams or men’s Dragons basketball, football or wrestling teams. Speaking of cheering, MSU Moorhead boasts the only competitive intercollegiate cheer team in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
Students participating in and serving as leaders in university organizations enjoy many benefits. Individuals may notice significant educational progress as they put into practice the concepts learned in the classroom environment. Further, they report improved interpersonal skills, such as leadership, assertiveness, communication, and organizational skills.
Many students find they can evaluate their strengths, interests, and possible career goals through participation in co-curricular activities. Student leaders may become involved with current community or social action issues, providing significant learning experiences different from the traditional classroom.
