  • Admission Requirement

    1. Approval from School District and Cooperative
     
    1. Minnesota teachers
      • In order to receive admission for the 18 Online program you will need approval from the following:
        • District Superintendent
        • Lakes Country Service Cooperative OR Northwest Service Cooperative
        • If you are not a member of LCSC or NWSC, please contact Josh Nelson or Jolene King.
         
       
    2. Wisconsin: UW System and Wisconsin Technical College adjuncts
      • In order to receive admission to the 18 Online Initiative you will need prior approval from:
        • John Dobyns, CAPP Outreach and Operations Director
          University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh
         
       
     
    1. Online graduate application
     

    Submit the Graduate Online Application.
    Under Section 6 Program:

    • Select the option that best describes your current educational goal:
      Choose the first option “Complete courses, but not a degree
    • Which option best describes you:
      Choose “Part Time Student
    • Program – Major/Academic Programs
      Choose “+ Add Program
      From the pull down menu, choose “GRADUATE COURSEWORK ONLY-No degree, GNSD
    • Finish and submit application
     
    1. Complete 18 Online Non-Degree Seeking application questions through the Self Service Center
     
    • Log in to the Self Service Center site (allow 24 hours after application submission before logging in)
    • Select the “Applications” tab, where you will see your graduate application listed
    • Select “Continue” on your Non-Degree Seeking application and complete additional questions to “Submit” application

    You do not need to order transcripts from MSUM or other Minnesota State System institutions. See Transcript Policy for more details.

    1. Proof of baccalaureate degree (unofficial transcripts accepted)
     
    • Log in to the Self Service Center site (allow 24 hours after application submission before logging in)
    • Select the “Applications” tab, where you will see your graduate application listed
    • Select “Summary” on the Non-Degree Seeking application and upload a transcript that shows your degree completion by selecting the “Upload” link under the “Action” column

    You do not need to order transcripts from MSUM or other MnSCU institutions. See Transcript Policy for more details.

    1. Application Fee
     

    DO NOT PAY! An application fee of $35.00 may be added to your account. We are waiving the fee for 18 Online students. The waiver is a manual process, so please be patient while we credit your account.

    1. Consult with your hiring authority prior to registering in order to make certain courses will be approved for your credentialing status.
     
    1. The Graduate Studies Office at MSUM will send you an email confirming that your admission has been finalized. You may register any time after this email is received.
     

    How do I register for class?

    Please contact the MSUM Graduate Studies Advisor at any time if you have questions or concerns.

    You may register anytime after you have received the email from the MSUM Graduate Studies Office confirming your admission has been finalized.

    18 Online Content Areas for Concurrent Enrollment

    Note: Be sure to check the course Notes and Restrictions to make sure you are registering for an 18 Online course. To find this information, go to Course Search, search for the course you are interested in taking, click on the course title. Look for mention of 18 Online under the Notes or Restrictions headings.

    Textbook Requirements

    Textbooks are available at the MSUM campus bookstore and may also be purchased online through other vendors.

    What is a course Waitlist?

    Add to yourself to the course waitlist:

    1. Log into eServices.
    2. Go to Courses & Registration
    3. Click Search for a Course
    4. Find the semester and course you would like to enroll
    5. When a class is full and has a waitlist option the "Waitlist Icon" Waitlist iconwill be black and the "Add" icon will be grayed out and not available.
    6. Click on the "Waitlist" icon.
    7. On the next screen, click on the "Submit" button.
    8. You will then get a message that you have been added to the waitlist.

    9. If a seat opens up eServices will notify the student in the #1 waitlist position that there is an available seat for them to register.
    10. The student will have 24 hours after being notified to register for the course.
    11. If the student does not register within the 24 hour time frame, the next student on the waitlist will be given the open seat.

    Reimbursement Instructions for Textbooks (MN teachers only)

    For the 18 online program, we require that each Minnesota participant or their district order and pay for their own books and submit the expense voucher along with a copy of the itemized receipt to get reimbursed by the project.

    The voucher and receipt can be sent via email to jking@lcsc.org or mailed to Lakes Country Service Cooperative, Attn: Jolene King, 1001 E. Mount Faith, Fergus Falls, MN 56537.

    Stipend (MN teachers only)

    Minnesota Teachers that participate in the 18 Online program MAY qualify for a stipend of $500 per credit completed. Please complete the stipend form for 18 Online participants and return it to Jolene King.

    Dropping or Withdrawing Course(s)

    You may drop (or withdraw from) a course(s) via eServices. If a course is dropped during the first week, it will be removed from your record.

    After the first five days of the semester, you can still withdraw from the course but it will appear on your transcript as a withdrawal. Withdrawing from a course(s) means that you are no longer in the course but the course counts as "attempted" and a grade of "W" is given. MINNESOTA STUDENTS THAT WITHDRAW AFTER THE FREE DROP PERIOD WILL BE CHARGED $225.00 PER CREDIT BY LAKES COUNTRY SERVICE COOPERATIVE.

    As stated in the "Withdraw from my 18 Online course" above, if you withdraw after the free drop period (first five days of the semester), you will be charged $225.00 per credit by Lakes Country Service Cooperative.

    Go to StarID Self Service and choose "What is my StarID".

    1. Log into Dragon Mail using your StarID and password. In the upper right corner, click on your name to open your profile. Your e-mail address displays below your full name. The last portion will be: @mnstate.edu

    2. Log into D2L Brightspace using your StarID and password.
      • If your course is open, click on the image or course name to enter the course.
        • From the Course Home page, click Communications + Classlist.
        • Search for your name on the list.
        • Your MSUM email address appears on the classlist. The last portion will be: @mnstate.edu
         
      • If your courses are closed (have not started), in the upper right corner click on your name and select Account Settings.
        • Click the Email tab.
        • Your MSUM campus email address will appear under the heading "Email Options" within the sentence "Send a copy of each outgoing message to ____." The last portion will be: @mnstate.edu
         
       

    Make sure you are using your StarID and password when logging into Dragon Mail. Refer to the Email FAQs page for help with commonly asked questions. If you continue to have questions or issues, contact the IT Helpdesk.

    It may take a day or so after registering for your 18 Online course before your record has been created in the D2L Brightspace system. You will be unable to log into D2L Brightspace before that occurs. Make sure you are using your StarID and password when logging into D2L Brightspace. If you continue to have questions or issues, contact the IT Helpdesk.

    Contact your instructor.

    The instructor's email address should appear on the course Classlist in D2L Brightspace. Open your course, click Communications + Classlist.

    If your course has not opened on D2L Brightspace, find your instructor's name on the Course Schedule. Select the appropriate Semester and Subject. Be sure to select All Courses. Click [Search]. Go to the MSUM Directory to find your instructor's contact information.
