What can I expect from my writing consultant?
Your consultant is a resource to help you improve your writing skills. He or she will offer you constructive feedback on your assignment and suggestions for improvement. Your consultant will not evaluate your paper on a grade scale or write the paper for you. He or she will not be a proofreader or copyeditor. This is your paper. You cannot drop off your paper; you must be present for the tutorial.
Can I receive help with my paper online?
You can email your paper as an attachment to the Write Site at Writectr@mnstate.edu. Please be aware that you may not receive a response for up to 48 hours
and, on rare occasions, somewhat longer than that if consultants are
busy with walk-in students and students with appointments.
Currently, the Write Site is not set up as an online writing lab,
though we routinely work with students in distance courses. However, we recommend you visit the Write Site in person to get the most out of your tutoring experience.
If you do email your paper, please remember to also
email the assignment sheet. In addition, please include in the body of
your email message the one or two -- or maybe three -- most significant
questions or concerns you have about the paper you are sending. Please
be very specific here; your writing consultant will not be able to
provide an overall critique for your paper if one of your questions is,
"What do you think of this paper?" Also, keep in mind that your writing
consultant cannot do global proofreading for you. We can work with you
on proofreading strategies, however.
What other resources does the Write Site offer?
Along with tutoring help and guidance on your paper or writing assignments for any major, the Write Site offers many other services.
● Resource books and materials for many writing problems
--grammar worksheets
--style books
--various documentation resources
