Jamie Holding Eagle
B.A. in Women's Studies,
Urban Gardener, Little Gardens Everywhere, Moorhead, MN
Little Gardens Everywhere is an organization I started in 2011 dedicated to urban gardening as a means of redeveloping relationships between people and food production. We believe that everyone has the right to organic local food, regardless of economic means, and that rather than contribute to urban sprawl, we should integrate food production and growing space into urban environments. Currently, I am working on developing a school garden at my children's elementary school as well as coordinating and drafting plans for an urban community collectively run garden in Fargo-Moorhead for 2012.
Shannon Bacon
B.S. in Social Work, B.A. in Women's Studies, 2008
Licensed Social Worker, Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, ND
Ave Maria Village is a nursing home with an interdisciplinary team of professionals providing care. Every day is different, but some of my frequent duties include assessing and care planning for residents' psychosocial well-being, helping residents adjust to their new home, coordinating discharge plans for residents who are ready to leave the facility, and working closely with residents' family members to ensure the best care possible. Through these activities, I have the opportunity to develop meaningful connections with my residents on a daily basis. I can honestly say that I love my job.
Natassja Gunasena
B.A. in Women's and Gender Studies and English, 2011
Diversity Admissions Counselor, MSUM, Moorhead, MN
My job is recruiting students from underrepresented communities to attend MSUM. This involves building relationships with high schools in Minnesota and North Dakota that serve a large number of students of color, and guiding students through the college admissions process. As a first generation, international college graduate myself, I'm passionate about equitable access to higher education for under-served populations.
