Biol. 484 - Biology Seminar
CHECK LIST
MAJOR
PRESENTATION
____ Select a topic for your Major Presentation.
____ Do a preliminary search of the journal literature (see Links for Searching the Literature and Examples of Journals, Magazines and Reviews).
____ Select 5 good journal articles on your topic to report on Information Form IIa. If you cannot find at least five journal articles, select a new topic.
____ Ask an appropriate faculty member to serve as your seminar advisor. Have this person sign the Advisor's Agreement on Information Form II.
____ Give your seminar advisor the Advisor's Evaluation Form with your name and the date of your Major Presentation filled in.
____ Turn in Information Forms II and IIa to the Seminar Coordinator. These forms are due by February 11, 2004 or February 12, 2004.
____ Complete a thorough search of the journal literature (see Links for Searching the Literature and Examples of Journals, Magazines and Reviews).
____ Plan to meet with your advisor regularly as you research and develop your Major Presentation.
____ Be sure to include at least 4 studies from the journal literature in the body of your Major Presentation. For each study you should describe the methodology, data, and conclusions. You must provide the Seminar Coordinator with a copy of each journal article (study) described.
____ Your presentation should be in your own words. You may paraphrase but do not plagiarize your sources.
____ Your visual aids (e.g. figures, tables, illustrations, etc.) should be clear, uncluttered, and easy to view. These should be prepared well in advance of the date of your Major Presentation.
____ Plan to practice your talk with your advisor several days before the date of your formal presentation.
____ Your final Title, Abstract, and Literature Cited (see Format for Abstract and Literature Cited) are due four full days before your presentation. These must be approved by your advisor before they are duplicated.
