Ed 603 - Assignment 7

For this seventh assignment for Ed 603, you are going to add the research hypothesis section to the parts of your research proposal you have already written. Please review the other sections (research problem, review of related literature, references) and make certain that you have made any corrections to them which was necessary. As you state your research hypothesis, recall our description of the research hypothesis in Lesson 6.

To formulate a research hypothesis we start with a research question and:

1. generate operational definitions for all variables, and
2. formulate a research hypothesis keeping in mind
• expected relationships or differences
• operational definitions
3. Hypothesis can also be classified in terms of how they were derived
• inductive hypothesis - a generalization based on observation
• deductive hypothesses - derived from theory
4. A hypothesis can be directional or non-directional.
5. Hypotheses can also be stated as research hypotheses (as we have considered them so far) or as statistical hypotheses.
6. The statistical hypotheses consist of the null hypothesis (H₀), the hypothesis of no difference and the alternative hypothesis (H₁ or H_A) which is similar in form to the research hypothesis.

Specific Format for Completing the Lesson 7 Assignment and sending it to the Ed 603 Instructor

You should create a word processing document for the assignment. As you did for previous assignments, at the top of the page, on the first line record the following: Ed 603, Lesson 7 Assignment. On the second line record your name and student number at MSUM (if you have one). On the third line record the date you completed the assignment.

In the assignment you should include the following items or components of your research plan, in the order given:

1. Statement of the topic:
2. Review of related literature:
3. Statement of the hypothesis including operational definitions of all variables:
4. References:

If you are doing a qualitative research plan for your final project for Ed 603, you can omit item 3 (statement of the hypothesis including operational definitions of all variables) but do include statement of the topic, review of related literature, and references in your assignment 7.

After you have completed the assigment (and saved it on your computer) send e-mail to your instructor indicating that you are sending the lesson 7 assignment in and then attach the file for the assignment to your email message.
