Ed 603 - Assignment 6

For this sixth assignment for Ed 603, read each of the following statements, each of which represents some kind of a quantitative research problem. For each of these problems, state the research hypothesis. You should also try to identify the independent variable, the dependent variable (in the case of correlational studies just indicate the variables), and the subjects. If possible define each variable in operational terms.

  1. A school guidance counselor investigates the influence of different motivational devices on the academic achievement of students. The counselor arranges for one group of students to receive immediate feedback upon the completion of an English assignment. Using the student's grades for the English course, the counselor wants to determine whether there is a significant difference in course grades beween the three groups.
  2. A teacher wishes to know if there is a significant positive relationship between reading achievement and mathematics achievement for the students in her fifth grade class.
