TOCAR Collaborative Awards Logo Design Prize to MSUM Student Hannah Mische
The Training Our Campuses Against Racism (TOCAR) Collaborative has awarded Hannah Mische, a senior graphics design major in Minnesota State University Moorhead's Art Department, a prize of $250 for rights to her TOCAR logo design.
The TOCAR Collaborative is made up of faculty, staff, student and administrator representatives from North Dakota State University, Concordia College, Minnesota State Community Technical College and Minnesota State University Moorhead, as well as community members and organizations. The logo will be used by all the organizations in the TOCAR Collaborative.
The logo design contest was held in Julie Mader-Meersman's Graphic Design class to provide the class with an opportunity to design for a real world client. Mische was a student in MaderMeersman's 200B class the Fall of 2002.
After reviewing several designs, the Collaborative came to a consensus that Mische's design best conveyed several of the key concepts and goals of the TOCAR initiative.
Mische states that she sought to capture three main aspects of the TOCAR
initiative in her design. Through the abstraction of an image of an eye, Mische
wanted to convey TOCAR's commitment to raising awareness of racism and other
forms of oppression. The collaborative partners engaged in TOCAR are represented
by the illustration of two arms, signifying both
"campus" and "community" embracing in clusiveness. And lastly, an outward ripple
effect in the the logo suggesting that social change, which begins at the
campuses, car offer long term and wide ranging impact
Mische is a native of Tioga, North Dakota an( plans to open a graphics design
business.
