AccomplishmentsWe have built an anti-racism team of more than 75 members, representing the entire campus community. We have organized and are currently training a Student Team of TOCAR at MSUM. We helped build a community wide anti-racist support collaborative with sister higher education institutions and several community organizations. We have held numerous anti-racism trainings on campus, training over 400 faculty, staff, administrators, and students. We are helping to inspire other campuses in Minnesota and North Dakota to begin the anti-racism journey. We are a founding member of the HEART Collaborative (Higher Education Anti-Racism Teams), which consists of representatives from MSUM, NDSU, Bethel College, St. Cloud University, and MnSCU. We developed and conducted a thorough campus wide climate survey of students, faculty, staff, and administrators. We are making it easier for the entire community to engage in discussions of race and racism. We have increased the ability of our campus to openly talk about racism and anti-racism. Through the efforts of TOCAR, an anti-racist statement is now included in many of the university job descriptions. We are expanding the resource base for advertising job vacancies. We are increasing campus awareness of the powers of privilege. We have created and secured funding for an ongoing Anti-Racist Multiculturalism Across the Curriculum Workshop for faculty. We influenced the transformation of the Liberal Studies core curriculum to include multiculturalism. We transformed 30 classes to include anti-racist multiculturalism. We are helping to increase acknowledgment of the value of enlarging the number of people of color on campus. We are developing a replicable model for anti-racism institutional transformation in higher education. We have ensured a TOCAR presence at numerous campus-wide events. We helped reestablish a yearly holiday luncheon to acknowledge the often under-appreciated contributions of staff at MSUM. We are working with Human Resources to create a supervisory training. We created and are facilitating one-hour discussions of race on campus. We received an IPSEL grant to create an anti-racism course at MSUM. We work to ensure anti-racist perspectives are represented on key university and program committees. We recruited student representatives for all of the TOCAR teams. We are helping to publicize and support multicultural events on campus planned by MSUM students. We are working to ensure completion of the MSUM diversity plan. We continuously recruit students to represent TOCAR at student events on campus. We participated in an Anti-Racism Training of Trainers. We have established an Anti-Racism Training Team with members from MSUM and NDSU campuses. We have designed a four-hour anti-racism training. We held two four-hour anti-racism trainings with high participation from Student Senate and Residential Assistants. We collected numerous names of students interested in participating in TOCAR. We are creating a TOCAR list serve for the campus community. We created and operated a TOCAR table at MSUM's Fourth of July event. We held two information sessions on TOCAR for MSUM students. We helped facilitate anti-racism trainings at NDSU. We have incorporated community involvement in our anti-racism initiative. We have secured permanent office space for TOCAR. We created a TOCAR website displaying the work of the initiative. We have secured on-going financial support from MSUM for the initiative. We have helped make it a goal on the Student Affairs Work Plan that everyone on staff is to attend a TOCAR anti-racism training. Our Anti-Racist Multiculturalism Across the Curriculum workshop is changing the way faculty analyze and talk about racism. We participated in a 1-day anti-racism training at White Earth. We have sponsored multicultural speakers to come to MSUM. We have participated in classroom presentations on racism and anti-racism. |
