What is Industrial Distribution (ID)?
You may not be familiar with the term, the careers, or the distribution businesses, but the function of distribution is something that directly affects you each day. Distribution (or logistics/transportation) is the controlled movement of goods or products from its origin or beginning to its final destination of use or consumption. Consider your favorite local pizza shop, because of distribution/logistics process you are able to enjoy fresh vegetables and fruit at the salad bar or on your pizza, regardless of the season.
Moving goods to the right locations at the proper time in the right quantities and in the proper condition can be described as distribution or logistics. Your future role could be in either the supervision or management of this product movement. Working in this industry you would be referred to as a distribution manager and work in the operations side of this huge business sector. You could also be the consultant or product expert serving as the problem solver and selling your expertise and product line. Engineering sales or technical sales is a growing job area and one that pays very well. You would be well prepared to enter this area with your ID degree.
