The MSUM Sustainable Campus Initiative Committee is dedicated to promoting and developing sustainable practices which will
reduce the University's impact on the environment. Through example, teaching, and community outreach, the initiative
acts as a catalyst of change as it strives toward the goal of an environmentally sustainable MSUM Campus.
The $5 "environmental fee" that shows up on a student tuition bill each semester is the result of the SCIC. This money goes into a fund that generates approximately $40,000 per year. 100% of
these funds are directed toward the development of sustainable procedures, programs, facilities, and curriculum. A
committee was formed to manage the money and research options for improving the campus environment. The SCIC evolved from that task force, and is now managing the funds. The SCIC is made up of MSUM students, faculty, staff and administrators. Regular
meetings are held on the first and third Wednesday of every month during the academic year.
