1. Recommendation: Determine, articulate, implement and assess integrated student learning outcomes for all MSUM students.
Status: The Student Success Task Force did not recommend action on this item at this time.
2. Recommendation: Create a place on campus to serve as an academic resource center where students can go for help on a wide range of issues.
Status: The Academic Resource Office opened for the Fall 2008 semester.
3. Recommendation: Hire a coordinator of student success.
Status: Veronica Michael has been named to coordinate orientation, Dragon Days, and the First Year Experience course.
4. Recommendation: Hire an enrollment management director.
Status: The university is currently discussing how best to coordinate enrollment management functions.
5. Recommendation: Identify and strengthen our campus culture.
Status: Dragons After Dark had a solid first year of programming and has received funds to expand its work into the 2008-2009 year.
6. Recommendation: Create a holistic model for student success.
Status: Student Success Task Force has proposed the SUCCEED set of values to guide our actions. The Foundations of Excellence created a Philosophy Statement for the First Year Experience.
7. Recommendation: Create a structure to ensure student success.
Status: Student Success Task Force has proposed the SUCCEED set of values to guide our actions. The Foundations of Excellence created a Philosophy Statement for the First Year Experience.
8. Recommendation: Create a model of for student success that places students at the center.
Status: Student Success Task Force has proposed the SUCCEED set of values to guide our actions. The Foundations of Excellence created a Philosophy Statement for the First Year Experience.
9. Recommendation: Hire a campus information center/operator.
Status: The ARO serves as a key location to find information about a variety of student success topics.
10. Recommendation: Redesign MSUM Web site.
Status: The university's new marketing plan has led to ongoing discussions about the revision of the MSUM Web site and recruiting materials.
11. Recommendation: Create a campus ombudsman.
Status: These duties may be charged to the transitions and orientation programs coordinator.
12. Recommendation: Maximize the benefits of residential life.
Status: The leadership of the Residential Life department is being reorganized and a search will be conducted for a new director.
13. Recommendation: Create a multicultural international center.
Status: The Cultural Diversity Committee will begin conversations of this recommendation. The Native American Center Task Force has convened to discuss creating a center for research and outreach.
14. Recommendation: Identify a convocation hour for meetings and events.
Status: The Class Scheduling Task Force has identified Friday after 2:30 as a time when most classes will not be in session.
15. Recommendation: Define outcomes for a mandatory FYE class.
Status: This was a key recommendation of the Foundations of Excellence report.
16. Recommendation: Review Dragon Days and Orientation outcomes and strategies.
Status: Veronica Michael has been named to coordinate orientation, Dragon Days, and the First Year Experience course. The format for Dragon Days has been significantly changed the past two years.
17. Recommendation: Identify a commonality of knowledge, understanding and respect on campus.
Status: Student Success Task Force has proposed the SUCCEED set of values to guide our actions. The Foundations of Excellence created a Philosophy Statement for the First Year Experience.
18. Recommendation: Create an advisory board of high school students.
Status: A task force created a report on this topic.
