Mike Kunza

Wade Klein - MAT Bus

  • Working Group handout

  • Purpose - The Metropolitan College Transportation Work group will act as a tool for metro area colleges to coordinate the development and implementation of transportation demand management techniques aimed at students, faculty, and staff.

    • Provide a regular forum to discuss transportation issues related to Metro Area Colleges such as transit (U-pass), taxi cab programs, parking, etc.

    • Facilitate communication between Metro Area Colleges, Metro COG, Metro Area Transit, and municipal transportation officials;

    • Discuss, promote, and educate students and faculty on the benefits of alternative transportation modes,

    • Provide transportation technical assistance to college administration and students.

  • Composition - Each metro area college will have both staff and student leadership representation.  Staff representation should be an individual or individuals who work with issues of parking and transportation, and the allocation of resources to support the U-Pass Program with Metro Area Transit.

Student leadership will appoint two members from its governing body, one freshman and one junior.  It is desirable the appointees serve on the working group for the duration of their stay at the particular institution.  Therefore by the time the junior has served two years and graduates, the sophomore appointee will have had two years experience with the working group.  Such as system will create continuity among the student leadership.

  • Long Range Goal (1 to 3 years) - The creation of a formal organization such as a Transit Management Organization/Associateion (TMO or TMA).  Such an organization or association would handle the myriad issues involved in college transportation.

Over time this association/organization would achieve its own budget and could be responsible for the marketing of transportation programs and initiatives, and be the pivot point in promoting transportation alternatives for metro area college students, faculty and staff.

  • Next Steps

    • Formalize membership and establish first meeting by October 7th

    • Proposed meeting dates: October, November, January, February, March, April, May

Fossey

  • Are any other colleges committed to this already?

MAT

  • You are the first actual presentation but there haver been verbal commitments to have people from the other schools attend the committee.

Fossey

  • How do you expect to find funding?

MAT

  • Non-profit agencies can get funding through grants or may even be able to use some of the funds through MAT's Marketing fund.

Kathleen Enz Finken - Dean of Arts and Humanities

  • I am working to 'whip my colleagues into shape'!

  • Certain areas I have been working hard on/ will be working hard on:

    • Honors program

    • Women Studies  program - I would like to eventually create a Women Studies Major

    • Developing English as a 2nd language program.

Lien

  • Congratulations on your appointment as Dean!

Mihal

  • When all of the parents were here on campus there were signs around all of the construction saying "Please excuse our mess".  However, they are now gone, as are the parents.  It makes me think it was just for the parents and not for the students, and that it doesn't matter that we have to put up with the mess.

Peeters

  • I concur!

  • I went to the Senate retreat...and I learned a lot about Parliamentary procedure and a lot about Landon.

  • I think we should do the Adopt-A-Highway cleaning soon!! Do what you can for the Earth so that the Earth can continue to do all it does for you!  (And if the streets look clean, people will be more inclined to be impressed with the area, and therefore the enrollment will go up!  In theory)

  • In memory of VP McCoy here is one of his infamous jokes...

Two penguins are taking a bath.  Penguin 1 asks Penguin 2 to pass the bar of soap.  Penguin 2 looks at penguin 1 and says, "What do you think I am, a typewriter?"

(No need to laugh...it's a McCoy joke)

  • The quote of the week: (Mihal and I were talking about how there are many strong relationships within Senate and that is where I got the idea for this quote)

Points for the Good of the Order:

Cailao

  • Unfortunately, I am disappointed that Senate did not accept the appointment of Nick Fredrickson.  I think we turned down a great asset.

Welle

  • I just wanted to mention that the motion to suspend the rules was NOT out of order, and it does take precedence over other motions.

Schwegel

  • I think we are starting to smooth things out a little bit!

Bard

  • I'm done waiting tables on Saturday!  YAY!

Cailao

  • I think this was a very good and very productive meeting.

Fossey

  • I appreciated being allowed to sit at the table.  I was also disappointed with Nick Fredrickson not being appointed.

Holmes

  • I too thought this meeting went well, much better than last week.  I am looking forward to an upward slope in our smooth running.

  • Help each other whenever you can!

Harder

  • I don't think closed caucus is right.  You are not allowed to see what is wrong, why you did/didn't get appointed.

Welle

  • I as well am upset that Nick Fredrickson didn't pass, especially with no debate on the motion.

Mihal

  • I think it is very brave of Senator Harder to speak up as a new senator.

  • By saying that only Senators can speak in a meeting is making this a closed body.  By listening to others you get a different point of view.

Ascheman

  • Overall we got a lot done.

  • As a body we want to seem open to the students and not silence their voices.

Announcements

Pugsley

  • Happy Birthday Justin! Let's all sing along

(At this point Senate joined together to celebrate in the life of Treasurer Schwegel through our voices)

Welle

  • I am having a blast looking at Billy

Cailao

  • DZ, GPB, PS is doing a teeter-a-thon.

Pugsley

  • Obach wants everyone to come out to JC's tonight.

Schwegel

  • Sorry about my boring hair.

  • We are going out to eat after Senate.

  • I really enjoy the food and BWW and the Trivia is fun.
