Working
Group handout
-
Purpose -
The Metropolitan College Transportation Work group will act as a
tool for metro area colleges to coordinate the development and
implementation of transportation demand management techniques
aimed at students, faculty, and staff.
-
Provide
a regular forum to discuss transportation issues related to
Metro Area Colleges such as transit (U-pass), taxi cab
programs, parking, etc.
-
Facilitate
communication between Metro Area Colleges, Metro COG, Metro
Area Transit, and municipal transportation officials;
-
Discuss,
promote, and educate students and faculty on the benefits of
alternative transportation modes,
-
Provide
transportation technical assistance to college
administration and students.
-
Composition
- Each metro area college will have both staff and student
leadership representation. Staff representation should be
an individual or individuals who work with issues of parking and
transportation, and the allocation of resources to support the
U-Pass Program with Metro Area Transit.
Student
leadership will appoint two members from its governing body, one
freshman and one junior. It is desirable the appointees
serve on the working group for the duration of their stay at the
particular institution. Therefore by the time the junior
has served two years and graduates, the sophomore appointee will
have had two years experience with the working group. Such
as system will create continuity among the student leadership.
-
Long Range
Goal (1 to 3 years) - The creation of a formal organization such
as a Transit Management Organization/Associateion (TMO or TMA).
Such an organization or association would handle the myriad
issues involved in college transportation.
Over time
this association/organization would achieve its own budget and
could be responsible for the marketing of transportation
programs and initiatives, and be the pivot point in promoting
transportation alternatives for metro area college students,
faculty and staff.

When all of
the parents were here on campus there were signs around all of
the construction saying "Please excuse our
mess". However, they are now gone, as are the
parents. It makes me think it was just for the parents and
not for the students, and that it doesn't matter that we have to
put up with the mess.

-
I served on
4 committees last year and am offended that President Holmes
thought that I apparently knew nothing!
-
This week I
completed the Senate Contact Sheets and placed those in your
mailboxes, which are located in the back of the Senate office by
the ugly couch. I had to hand write people's nicknames and
Justin's information.
-
I went to
the Senate retreat...and I learned a lot about Parliamentary
procedure and a lot about Landon.
-
I think we
should do the Adopt-A-Highway cleaning soon!! Do what you can
for the Earth so that the Earth can continue to do all it does
for you! (And if the streets look clean, people will be
more inclined to be impressed with the area, and therefore the
enrollment will go up! In theory)
-
SPAM and I
got the attendance set up for this semester!
-
I will have
the minutes out soon, due to me not being able to get on the
website right away and the format of the minutes still not being
finished, I have not yet completed the minutes from last week!
-
In memory
of VP McCoy here is one of his infamous jokes...
Two penguins are taking a bath. Penguin 1 asks Penguin 2
to pass the bar of soap. Penguin 2 looks at penguin 1 and
says, "What do you think I am, a
typewriter?"
(No need to
laugh...it's a McCoy joke)
-
I am going
to Harvest Fest the 8th - 11th!!! WOOHOO!
-
But due to
this I will not be here next week...so SPAM will be covering for
me. Please be kind for her! Talk slowly and
enunciate well!
-
HAPPY
BIRTHDAY JUSTIN SCHWEGEL!! Tomorrow is Justin's birthday!
Yay!
-
I am going
to the State Fair in Huron, SD this weekend.
-
Chairs!!
Please send to me (by email/in my mailbox) a list of all of your
committee members, your committees meeting time, goals you want
to accomplish, projects you will be taking on, and a brief
description of your committees work and/or contribution to
Senate. Also include a way for outsiders to contact the
committee!

If you
currently hold a residential seat, your term will be up at the
end of this semester. You can tell if you are residential
if you are holding a dorm seat or a off campus seat. To
have your seat next semester, you must win the election. To
win elections, you must file for elections. Filing starts
in about a month and a half. It will be announced during

I
too thought this meeting went well, much better than last
week. I am looking forward to an upward slope in our
smooth running.

Harder

Mihal
-
I
think it is very brave of Senator Harder to speak up as a new
senator.
-
By
saying that only Senators can speak in a meeting is making this
a closed body. By listening to others you get a different
point of view.
