Public Hearing
Mihal
Two students at Mankato committed suicide in past month.
Ohren
While registering for classes I noticed that several of the
online major and minor requirements are out dated.
Elkin
Do we have a class that does some kind of automotive survival
skills? If we don’t we should.
Braddock
They probably have something like this at the tech college.
Weber
I have heard a great deal of complaints regarding the new
required course for freshman.
Schwegal
I have heard that it is possibly going to be an online class. It
is going to infuriate a lot of people but its going to look
great to parents.
Elkin
I ask a student if she has any problems on campus. She thinks
that there should be more motivation for grades aka candy.
Braddock
Both Tosoro and Taco John's will reward you.

Whereas
Alumni currently have no representation on Student
Senate,
Whereas such
distinguished senators as Bard, Ascheman, Elkin and
Obach are entering into Alumni status,
Be it
resolved that the MSUM Student Senate Constitution be
amended to allow for one alumni seat.
|
Bard
It only makes sense. I think it all makes a great deal of sense.
Ascheman
It doesn’t make difference whether or not this is shut down.
Schwegal
Don't you have to be astudent to be on senate?
Ascheman
Don’t worry it wont go on this ballot.
Schwegal
According SOAC'S rules you have to be a student to have voting
rights.
Elkin
I think this is fabulous.
Mihal
Does the motion say they would be a member?
Braddock
The motion says they would have a seat.
Mihal
Couldn’t they just come in and sit?
Schwegal
Say someone has the seat for social sciences that would be the
same seat as the alumni seat, does the alumni have all the same
benefits as that seat?
Mihal moves/Wilson-mattson seconds to table to leg internal.
Mihal
If it needs to be hammered out then we shouldn’t pass it.

Whereas
the current Student Senate Constitution has no process
for the removal or appeal of the Student Senate Advisor,
Be it
resolved that the following proposed amendment to the
MSUM Student Senate Constitution be put to referendum on
the Spring 2006 election ballot.
(Art II Sec
1.) Add C,D
C.
Removal Process shall be initiated by the Executive
Board and must be approved by 2/3 majority of Student
Senate members. Before any vote on constitutional
requirements can be taken relevant to the removal of a
MSUM Student Senate Advisor and the appropriate bylaw
and all amendments must be read to the senate from a
current and complete constitution on the day of the
vote. Before a vote of removal can take place, the
senate must place it on their agenda for the next
regularly scheduled business meeting and the senate
member in question must be given the opportunity to
explain the reasons(s) for his/her conduct. If the
Advisor to be voted upon remains absent during the next
business meeting, even after sufficient notification, a
vote may still be taken for the Advisor's removal from
senate.
D. The
Advisor has 30 days to submit a written letter of appeal
to be reviewed by the Executive Board and presented to
Student Senate in the President's report. The
Advisor can at this time be reinstated by a 2/3 majority
vote.
|
Wilson-Mattson
It is very standard to have a removal
and appeal process for every seat and the advisors.
Schwegal
SOAC requires
this in all constitutions.
Mihal
Why don’t we have anything for president?
Braddock
As a senate member we do have the process for the removal of
president.

Whereas the current Student Senate Constitution has no
process for the appeal of a removed senator,
Be it
resolved that the following proposed amendment to the
MSUM Student Senate Constitution be put to referendum on
the Spring 2006 election ballot.
(Art II Sec
12.) Add A
A. The
senate member has 30 days to submit a written letter of
appeal to be reviewed by the Executive Board and
presented to Student Senate in the President's report.
The Senate member can at this time be reinstated by a
2/3 majority vote.
|
Wilson-Mattson
This is the same thing as before
its pretty basic and our
constitution is missing it.
Horn
Isn’t this the same thing as when we ask the last senator?
Braddock
Yes but this is an appeal to exec board,
Ascheman
Exec board has to bring letter before senate?
Mihal
Immediate vote?
Wilson-Mattson
We have brought this up now so
that it could not be brought up during points
for the good of the order. At this point senators can
decide whether or not to put forth a motion.
Braddock
Reinstatement would be new business so it
would have to come up in new business.
Motion carries.

Spring 2006 Ballot:
Diversity
Committee, Senate Employees' Rights, Representatives'
Rights, Liaisons' Rights, Splitting Exec Pay in Two
Payments, Appeal of Removal Process, VP job description,
and Advisor Removal Process. |
Mihal
These are the amendments and all of the candidates, they have
not been verified in terms of gpa but that is what is left to be
done.
Mihal
I am kind of disappointed that only
two things are contested, encourage your friends to write
themselves in.
Elkin
This is ridiculous, this should be huge this is
not the fall election.
Weber
I would have liked the business and
industry seat but there is a rule
against that.
Bard
Is it possible to leave it open any longer?
Braddock
There are always write in options.
Mihal
We don’t have another meeting before we approve the results.
Elkin
Is it possible once we approve this to put together resources in
order to advertise that there are positions open?
Maybe that will make up for lack of
registration.
Braddock
I don’t think the election chair
understood that she was supposed to advertise.
Vrtis
I agree that we should have an advertisement but I don’t know
that that is fair.
Zeiher
I am in favor of a
write in advertisement, as the election chair
was maybe not explained what her job was.
Motion carries
Points for the Good of the Order
Ohren
For those of you planning on doing the
dragon fire walk please start getting pledges, hand them in to
me as you get them.
Wilson
VP Wiese
wanted me to make sure that you are
aware that there is a parking open hearing. Also to thank
the vice president he was actually ask to speak on
the house floor on parental notification I have heard
that he was awesome.
Mihal
But he did get compensation.
Ascheman
I would like to thank all the committees that gave their short
reports today.
Elkin
MSUSA went really well and I can give
a full report.
I got to drive a big bus on the way down there. It was just
Senator Horn
Nick Gains
and I in the car. It was huge. The world pool in the hot tub
was a vortex to another dimension. The
budget went pretty well, anyone want to talk about election of
treasurer?
Braddock
There were only two candidates ,
we suspended the
rules to nominate, and there was a
dead lock election for four hours.
In the end what was
an 18 -22 vote split ended up being 32-4
they were both terribly qualified
it was a hard decision.
Elkin
They had to be sequestered, so I kept them busy in the hot tub,
and my report was amazing. But the state chair was uncontested
which left me disappointed. The staff
gave the current state chair a lame duck stuffed animal.
There was a west wing party. On the
way back it was just Nick and I and
there was singing and we are pretty sure we are going to put
together a cd of MSUSA songs we sing
to and fro.
Braddock
MSUSA was fun, we got assaulted by
a spicy chicken sandwhich, Cailao
and I also sang, all of the
Tenacious D
album. Also it is transition manual
time, remember we don’t get payed
without turning in the manual.
Elkin
Senator Ascheman has been nominated
for a rose bowl position. He also is
nominated for the flame man position,
he gets to be put on our composite.
We are gonna sing to him now.
