What do
I do if I have a question?
Cailao
Raise
your hand and say, “Point of Information” and I will call you on and
then you can ask your question.
Braddock
The
Financial Aid staff that I talked to was condescending. They deal
with “our hopes and dreams”, so they could be a little nicer.
Elkin
I
concur that Financial Aid can be condescending. The sidewalk in
front of Nemzek is really, really icy. A couple people “have almost
died.”
Proxy Advisor Wilson
The sidewalk there is nasty. I will look into it.
Elkin
Thanks.
Obach
In the
Financial aid office, there are two ladies that work the front
desk. One is helpful; the other is not.
Wilson Mattson
The
female toilets in the library flush a lot, even while in use.
Mihal
The guy that drives Route 2 during the evening
always says, "Good morning" when you get on the bus. This
trips me out: for a split second, I think it is morning.
Also three Nepalese students attending Southwest
were killed in a car crash over break.
Reports
Advisor
Wiese
There
is work being done on the two projects on the wellness center.
There are now two individual projects versus the earlier one

look through the plans and give comments.
Kise
won’t be replaced completely- this will be cheaper, but will still
make al l the modifications we needed.
1//3 of

Cailao (President)
Hello
Senators and Guests,
I would like to welcome back everyone, all newly elected and
returning Senators, to the beginning of a new semester. I hope that
you've all had a restful and relaxing winter break. Naturally, this
week has been extremely busy, working with my transition over into
the Office of the President for Student Senate. I've spent the
better part of these past few days organizing files, folders,
updating communications with staff and administrators on campus, as
well as other campuses and MSUSA, and setting up committees to serve
on.
This week I attended a UPBC meeting where we reviewed the progress
reports on the Master Work Plan's of several areas on campus,
including Administrative Affairs and Student Affairs.
I also attended the Alcohol Task Force meeting and the Student
Activity Fee Review meeting.
Be sure to have your requested office hour turned into my box by
Friday afternoon so that we can set up a schedule as soon as
possible.
Also, new Senators be on the lookout these next few days for your
Senate binders. I will place them in your mailboxes when I receive
them. These manuals are an important reference tool for your time on
Senate, and will give you a basic understanding as to the workings
of our Senate as a whole.
Chair Obach is working on putting together a Spring Retreat. We will
let you know the time so that you can all adjust your schedules
accordingly. Be thinking of goals for our Senate that you can bring
with.
Cabinet will meet immediately
after our next meeting, on the 19th.
MSUSA
is coming up the last weekend of this month. I will send a sheet
around for people to sign up to attend. This month's conference will
be hosted by Metropolitan.
And last but not least, I would like to congratulate Jennifer
Costley, who will serve as the Secretary of Senate. I'm confident
that Jennifer will do a fantastic job, and I look forward to having
her onboard!
Again, welcome back and congratulations to all newly
elected Senators!

for the new Senators that we have a penalty for cell phones

We will

you have any suggestions for what other committees I should be on,
let me know.
Campus Safety
Committee (Braddock)
There
are two issues for us to work on right now. The first one is that
there is a budget shortfall in Security. This limits the number of
hours that the average patrol office can work. This really hurts
the international students who can only work on campus, and only two
places on campus a lot of jobs for them [Campus security and Food
Service]. The second issue is to get radios to the GMWs. When a
student is locked out of his or her dorm room during the day,
security pages the appropriate GMW. It can take them a few hours to
respond. If they had radios, this process would be quicker. In
addition to this, we will look at where we want to add the
additional Blue Light phones.
Questions:
SW
What is
the reason for the shortfall?
Br
I
haven’t investigated it.

Discussion
Short
I am
Niles Short, I have been a Moorhead native for a long time. Both of
my parents were alumni. My uncle was a lobbyist. I read the
advocate. I got an e-mail about the opening. I was interested in
the taxi problem. Hopefully I can work with you.
Obach
You want to work with the taxi program,
what else?
Short
Nothing
else that I can think of. Women’s studies brainstorming. Parking.
(ongoing) that I read about.
Braddock
As a
non traditional student, what do you add to Senate?
Short
I’ve
worked with young people 19-25 years. I don’t know what is always
right or wrong, but I am willing to listen.

program.

Braddock
I would
like to thank Obach for bringing up Operation Media Onslaught.
After watching the DVD for the second time, I think it is a good
primer for senate
Elkin
It
doesn’t matter what committee you are on, you can come to another
committee meeting
Bard
I think
President Cailao did a good job of stepping up.
Braddock
I am
just going to ramble now. Last semester was an uphill battle.
This is a fresh start. We should take the horse by the reins and
run with it. Sign up for MSUSA. We are the coolest school at
MnSCU.
Elkin
There
is a limit of how many can go to MSUSA conferences for free.
Obach
We do
have a lot of fun at MSUSA and we work hard.
Cailao
I guess
I get to go last now. Congrats newly appointed and elected. We
will have a retreat planned by chair Obach. Senate binders will be
in the next few days. Thanks for every one for signing up for
MSUSA. It helps out the relationship we have with the schools in
the state. I will call cabinet next week.

Elkin
