Apply to be on Senate

Senate openings occur when a Senator is forced to leave his or her seat during his or her term, most commonly due to graduation or unforeseen life circumstances.  A full Senate is a more effective Senate, so our Constitution allows us to fill those seats via the following procedure.

The process of appointment takes three steps:

1. Fill out this form, which is submitted to the President and may be forwarded to the Senators for review.

2. Interview with the President.

3. Be approved by the Senate (short Q & A session).

After filling out the form, you will be contacted via email by the Senate President (or his or her representative) to set a meeting time for an interview. Senate approval for the appointment takes place at the first meeting following the interview. The average turn around time is two weeks.

If you have ANY questions about the appointment process or need any additional information, do not hesitate to contact the Senate Office at 218-477-2150 or the Senate President at stusen@mnstate.edu.
