    What is MSUM’s Speech Language Hearing Clinic Regional Assistive Technology Center?

    The Minnesota State University Moorhead Speech-Language & Hearing Clinic Regional Assistive Technology Center (RATC) was established to provide communication devices and knowledge of augmentative communication systems to consumers, families and professionals in Minnesota and North Dakota. In addition to providing knowledge about and services for augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices, the center also provides information about and services for assistive technology.

    Who can benefit from the Technology Center?

    There are many individuals who can benefit from the RATC, including children and adults with severe communication and/or physical impairments. The RATC also benefits professionals who work with individuals who are current or potential users of AAC or assistive technology, as well as provides information and support for family members of individuals who use AAC.

    How does the RATC work?

    The RATC offers a wide range of services to the public, including consultation services and direct assessments to severally communicatively and/or physically impaired individuals who are potential or current users of AAC and other assistive technology. The RATC provides consultation and direct assessment services for assistive technology to those with writing, spelling and organization difficulties. Also available is in-service education to AAC users, families, professionals, and other service providers working with assistive technologies. The RATC works as an equipment loan and resource center for consumers, families and professionals. Lastly RATC provides workshops and other continuing education opportunities to students, professionals, AAC users and family members in the area.
