Dear Prospective Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in the School of Social Work at MSUM! We appreciate your interest in our program. Accredited by the Council on Social Work Education since 1973, our program graduates entry-level professionals ready for licensed generalist practice. For information on admissions, see our "Admissions and Fin Aid" option on the main menu. You may also find detailed information on our curriculum in the Student Handbook, available under "Current Students" at the main menu. In addition, please note these points about our program:
- Our curriculum is fully grounded in general education requirements;
- Our upper-level course enrollment averages 15-20 majors, so students get quality and personal attention;
- Our curricula leads to the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree required for state licensure in Minnesota, North Dakota, and most other states;
- Our graduates achieve a 97 percent pass rate on their social work licensure examination on their first-try (well above the national rate of 82 percent)
- Our faculty have diverse social work practice experience in child and public welfare; medical, psychiatric, and gerontological social work, family treatment, probation, policy analysis, social work research, mental health, domestic violence, chemical dependency, among others;
- Our faculty are active board members and community volunteers in a variety of outstanding programs -- Dorothy Day House, Minnesota Chapter of National Association of Social Workers, The United Way of Cass-Clay, North Dakota Conference on Social Welfare, PATH of ND, Big Brother Big Sister, White Earth Tribal and Community College, among others; and
- National employment of social workers is expected to increase faster than the average for all occupations through 2014. In Minnesota, growth in professional social work should rise from 16 to 25 percent (USDL).
