This is an introductory class to the Spanish Language and Hispanic Culture. It will be mostly in Spanish. The class focuses on Speaking, Reading, Writing and Listening to Spanish. This course is structured around the following principles set forth by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL):

• Communication -- The important task of conveying and understanding messages.
• Culture – Embracing practices and traditions
• Connections – Identifying with aspects we recognize and those we don't
• Comparisons – Evaluating connections between cultures and languages
• Communities – Seeing the structures within cultures
