I joined the Department of Languages and Cultures at MSUM after receiving my PhD in Romance Philology from the University of Pennsylvania in 2000, specializing in the medieval epic tradition. I received a B.A. and an a M.A. from Brigham Young University. I regularly teach courses in Linguistics, Iberian Culture, Spanish for Health Care Professionals as well as grammar and writing courses. I have taught a graduate seminar on Don Quixote. I have written a number of papers on the Poema del Mio Cid and the Crónica de Veinte Reyes, Teaching the History of the Spanish language and Teaching Spanish for the professions. I take an active interest in Arte Naïf particularly the Ecuadorian Artist Gonzalo Endara Crow. I am also keenly interested in the language and culture of Galicia in northwestern Spain. Other interests include: Dantean literature, language acquisition, Papiamento, folk music and volunteer missions to developing countries.
