NSSLHA
Minnesota State University Moorhead’s local NSSLHA chapter is a student-led organization, which encourages students to become involved in the Speech/Language/Hearing Sciences Department and increase their interest in the study of normal and disordered human communication behaviors.
The mission of NSSLHA is to benefit its members by continually improving its support, promotion, and advocacy of the highest quality preparation of professionals in audiology, speech-language pathology and speech and hearing science. NSSLHA operates as an independent organization and is recognized by the discipline’s professional association, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), as the official organization for students interested in human communication sciences and disorders.
MSUM’s NSSLHA is conjoined with a local organization called Sertoma (SERvice TO MAnkind). The goal of Sertoma is to promote better speech and hearing in the community. One representative from the NSSLHA/Collegiate Sertoma organization attends a monthly meeting with the Sertoma members in Fargo. This is our way of communicating between the two organizations. NSSLHA/Collegiate Sertoma participates in many fundraising activities throughout the year to donate money to various organizations including the NSSLHA Loves Campaign and the Pediatric Aids Foundation. NSSLHA also donates money to the students who wish to attend the National ASHA Convention and also the Minnesota ASHA Convention.
NSSLHA has many fun activities scheduled throughout the year. The fundraising money also goes toward holiday events and gatherings for the members of the organization. NSSLHA also participates in various community service activities including Better Hearing and Speech month and providing hearing screenings several times per year.
