Basic Drawing I

Basic Drawing I focuses on fundamental drawing skills using black and white media. Graphite, charcoal, ink, and conte are explored. Subject matter includes landscape, still life, and figurative work. There are no pre-requisites for this course, although a student must be a declared art major or minor in order to enroll.

Basic Drawing II

Basic Drawing II explores a variety of color media. Color pencil, chalk pastel, oil pastel, watercolor, and mixed media are included. Still life, the portrait, landscape, and abstraction are explored. Basic Drawing II is a pre-requisite for this course.

Foundation Design I

Foundation Design I covers the fundamentals of two-dimensional design, including color theory. There is no pre-requisite for this course, although a student must be a declared art major or minor in order to enroll.

Introduction to Life Drawing

Introduction to Life Drawing is an intensive course in artistic anatomy with a focus on black and white drawing media. This is a required course for all students with a drawing concentration. For other art majors, this course may be taken to fulfill one of the required introductory studio courses or as an elective.

Advanced Life Drawing

Advanced Life Drawing is a color media course focusing on the expressive potential of the figure. Advanced concepts in composition are also explored. A term paper and an oral presentation on a contemporary figurative artist are also required of each student. This is a junior level course and must be taken by all students with a drawing concentration. Introduction to Life Drawing is a pre-requisite.

Experimental Drawing

Experimental Drawing is a multi-media course using non-traditional approaches to drawing materials and concepts. Neo-perceptual, intuitive, and expresssive approaches are explored through several project assignments. May be taken as a 200, 300, or 400 level studio. Pre-requisite: Basic Drawing II or permission of the instructor.

BFA Seminar

This course addresses professional practices for visual artists.  Topics include: art law, copyright, portfolio development, exhibition preparation, ethical issues in the arts, and other topics pertinent to performance in the professional art world. This course is open to senior-level and BFA students.
