Long before they became our pets, horses had a more active role in American culture.  They were our ancestor's cars, tractors, business clientele, and sports figures.  Horses were extremely viral for survival in the newly settled prairies of Clay County in Minnesota.  They were responsible for bringing people together, no matter what their cultural background.  With miles between neighbors and the nearest towns, horses were a necessity to those living in the rural, sparsely settled areas.  They are a forgotten part of Clay County's history; their important role left in the dust of many minds.  The role of horses in Clay County's early history were not documented because no one thought twice about the large animals because they were so common.

Take a ride back into a time where horses played a major role in the livelihood of all of Clay County's residents.
