Stitch Design

The Ojibwe nations were the most prolific creators of the most extraordinary bags. This bag is large and colorful with fine details of beadwork and stitching; they may have got more decorative with the rising popularity. It displays a typical design of the Ojibwe, containing floral, fruit and plant motifs. It has a pocket that was stitched shut, probably to display with less wear. The beads are “spot stitched” which is very time consuming. The creator uses 2-4 beads at a time to form the design. This bag was made around 1915-1930.
