Primary Source Microfilm
About Primary Source Microfilm
Primary Source Microfilm, an imprint of the Gale Group, has spent
the past 35 years building one of the
worlds largest microform archives of exclusive primary
source materials in subject areas that include the
humanities, social sciences and international news. Our purpose
has been to provide access to rare,
valuable research materials for libraries, scholars, faculty and
students.
Our work has grown and diversified since our modest beginnings as
Research Publications in 1966. During
the years, we have developed a highly regarded array of primary
source materials and have published such
landmark collections as The Times (London), The Sabin Collection,
The Eighteenth Century Collection,
Music Manuscripts from the Great English Collections and
Nineteenth Century and Twentieth Century Legal
Treatises.
In 1973, filming of the prestigious Goldsmiths-Kress
Library of Economic Literature began, while 1974 saw
the filming of the influential publication, The Financial Times.
As the 1980s dawned, we expanded our
horizons further and became part of The Thomson Corporation, one
of the worlds leading information and
publishing companies. By 1986, we added the Lost Cause Press -- a
publisher specializing in Americana --
and Harvester Press Microform Publications Ltd., offering an
extensive list of British primary source
documents.
The decade of the 90s witnessed significant milestones. In 1992,
we published in cooperation with the
British Library the first unit of the renowned, unprecedented
research collection, Incunabula: The Printing
Revolution in Europe, 1455-1500. In 1995, as the newly renamed
Primary Source Media, we launched
Major Authors and other acclaimed collections which place primary
sources into full context for research and
learning. By 1997, we initiated a major undertaking to digitize
selected collections from our microform vault,
and in 1998 our first online products were published -- once
again proving our commitment to making our
rare and valuable collections more widely accessible to scholars
and researchers.
On the eve of the new millennium, Primary Source Media merged
with Gale Research and Information
Access Company to became part of the Gale Group -- thus creating
a new worldwide leader in information
publishing for libraries, academic institutions and corporations.
Recognized and respected throughout the world for the quality and
diversity of our collections, Primary
Source Microfilm, as we are known today, continues to set the
standard for scope, authority and accessibility
among microform reference materials. We also believe the future
holds many more opportunities. To learn.
To grow. And to continue to provide indispensable information,
insight and innovation as the worlds leading
publisher of archival research materials.
