Tri-College University Celebrates Earth Week

North Dakota State University, Minnesota State University Moorhead, and Concordia College students are sponsoring a Tri-College Earth Week celebration on their campuses Monday, April 23 through Friday, April 27.

The week will be filled with student and faculty speakers, films, clean-up activities, and more focusing on sustainability, global warming, and other environmental issues. Don't miss the Tri-College Earth Week Music Festival on the MSUM campus Thursday, 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.!

Tuesday, April 17

Dr. Lee Frelich speaks on the topic of Global Climate in Minnesota Forests. 7:00 p.m. in Knutson Center Centrum, Concordia College.

NDSU’s Century Theatre presents the MUST-SEE documentary An Inconvenient Truth at 7:00 p.m. Learn how each every one of us can make changes in the way in which we live our lives and become part of the solution. Admission is free.

 

Wednesday, April 18

A representative from Clean Water Action will staff an information table in NDSU Memorial Union from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Clean Water Action is a national nonprofit organization working for clean, affordable water and prevention of health-threatening pollution while getting the word out on how each of us can help.

 

Thursday, April 19

Claire Vagessaa from Cass County Electrical Cooperative will share information about the cooperative and how we can help.  7:00 pm at NDSU, IACC Rm. 104.

Saturday, April 21

Adventure and science come together in the unique presentation by two international figures who have traveled to the North and South Poles – Lonnie Dupre, with One World Expedition, and Dr. Allan Ashworth, Distinguished Professor, NDSU Geosciences. In Search of Global Warming: Questions and Answers from Arctic and Antarctic Expeditions”.  2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Loftsgard Hall, NDSU.

Monday, April 23

MSUM presents End of Suburbia”, a movie that discusses the dwindling supply of cheap energy in the form of fossil fuels and its effect on society. 7:00 p.m. MSUM Science Lab Building Large Lecture Auditorium Rm.104.  Admission is free.

Tuesday, April 24

NDSU and MSUM are organizing their Campus Cleanup Day from 11:00 – 3:30 p.m. MSUM volunteers should report to Livingston Lord Library’s west side. NDSU volunteers should report to the SEAC table in Memorial Union. There will be food for all those who help!  Everyone is welcome to volunteer, including faculty, staff and administrators!

MSUM students from the People & the Environment class (Sociology 390) present their Wind Energy Projects in Lommen Hall Rm. 101 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.

NDSU presents Who Killed the Electric Car, a documentary film that explores the birth, limited commercialization, and subsequent death of the battery electric vehicle in the United States. 6:00 p.m. in IACC Rm. 104.  Admission is free.

Abrupt Climate Change: Past, Present and Future – 7:00 pm. Dr. Lonnie Thompson, renowned expert on global warming and climate changes will speak at the Fargo Theatre. Dr. Thompson was referenced in Al Gore’s documentary “An Inconvenient Truth”. NDSU College of Science and Mathematics Lectureship Series. Free and open to the public.

 

Wednesday, April 25

A representative from Clean Water Action speaks on the power of the self and how we can all make a difference to make our environment a sustainable and healthy place to live.  5:00 p.m.  NDSU FLC Room 319.

MSUM will present a Question & Answer Panel Discussion comprised of distinguished guests and faculty addressing various environmental issues, including sustainability, global warming, alternative energy resources, etc..  7:00 p.m. King Hall Lecture Auditorium Rm. 110.

Thursday, April 26

Tri-College University Earth Week Music Festival occurs on the MSUM campus mall. 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Enjoy music performed by student musicians in an outdoor atmosphere. Vendors, display booths, food and other activities will be available.
