Names 2 Know

You might not know everything after your first week on campus, but here are things true Dragons know and love.

President Roland Barden
Edna Mora Szymanski, Ph.D., was appointed the tenth and first woman President of Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2008. She's already earned the nickname "Hurricane Edna" and has hit the ground running by engaging the campus in dialogue about our vision and our future. She has a lot of energy and has an open door policy concerning students.

Scorch the Dragon
He’s MSUM’s mascot and the Dragons’ number one fan. He’s also a staunch competitor and has suited up against his local rivals—Corncob and Bison—to compete on behalf of all MSUM Dragons. He’s our hero!

Livingston Lord Library
You’ll find just about anything you’ll ever need at our library, or at the Tri-College University libraries and statewide collections, which are all available to you. And it’s one of the best places on campus to do your studying. Just don’t get too comfy—studying sometimes turns into sleeping!

Nemzek Fieldhouse
It’s home to all of MSUM’s athletics, club sports and intramurals. Nemzek has hosted the likes of Vice President Dick Cheney and community events such as July 4th fireworks, the Dragon Fire Walk for Athletics, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, and the Special Olympics. If you can’t make it to any these events, we hope you’ll show up at Nemzek for your graduation ceremony.

Kise Commons
Okay, so it’s not Mom’s home cooking, but Sodexo Food Services serves great food out of Kise Commons dining hall. Homemade soups, fresh baked bread, pizza and pasta, fresh fruit and salads, vegetarian dishes and so much more. And you never have to fight with your brother over the last piece of pie.

Roland Dille Center for the Arts
If we’re expecting a crowd, it will probably be found here. You can enjoy myriad artists and art here—featuring MSUM Theatre productions, Performing Arts Series, Straw Hat Players; nationally known performers, comedians and artists; and music spanning all genres.

Your RA
The “go to” person for just about anything to do with MSUM. They can help with roommate concerns, give academic advice, and are a walking dictionary of campus life. They’re good listeners and cool people. You’ll want to get to know them.

Your advisor
How do I choose a major? What classes do I need to graduate? Can I double major? How can I do an internship? Is this the right career path for me? Academic advisors can help answer these and many other questions. Everyone gets one, and they’re absolutely essential when it comes to registering for classes. Don’t wait to get to know yours!

The Advocate
To find out what’s going on in the community and on campus, check out the award-winning Advocate, MSUM’s weekly newspaper. You can find out how the Dragons are doing in basketball, see what bands are playing locally, check out upcoming campus speakers, or send in your opinions about world, national or local events.
