Making Friends

Ready to be a Dragon?
Becoming a Dragon means embracing the Dragon spirit. It all starts with the people you’ll spend the next four to five years getting to know and love.

You will make new friends.
In your classes, in your residence hall, in your organizations, in your clubs, in your volunteer groups, in your faith groups. Where can’t you make friends?

Life without your high school friends continues.
You might not be able to imagine it, but many of your new college relationships will be as meaningful, if not more so, than your high school friendships. Really.

Be yourself.
Not everyone will like you. That’s okay. Stick with people who do.

Making FriendsSelect your peers carefully.
They will have an impact on the adult you become. Make friends with people of different ages; older students can really help you out.

Be open-minded.
Use this opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and to learn from them. You’ll probably learn something about yourself, too.

Stick with your values.
Being in college doesn’t mean giving up your beliefs or opinions or feelings. Be yourself and let others get to know the real you.

It’s okay to feel lonely.
You’re probably missing your family, friends or pets. The reality is everyone feels a little homesick now and then. It will pass. In the meantime, have some of your favorite things from home that are great comforters when you’re feeling low.
