Location: Publication's Office
Mood: tired, stressed
What I'm Reading Now: For once, none. I just finished the latest in the "sisterhood of the traveling pants" series yesterday, which was a nice, easy breather after all the intellectual stuff I've read this semester.
Sorry its been so long since my last entry. The past month has been crazy with the end of the semester coming up. Even though its study day today and classes are over, I still have five papers to write between now and May 10, plus one final tomorrow morning. This is nothing for an English/mass comm major though. All of my papers have to be between 4-7 pages average while I know some people who have 18+ pages to write.
Anyway, the Academic Conference went well. Three of my professors showed up along with Kristi, my boss. I was pretty nervous in the minutes leading up to my presentation, but once I got up to the podium, I became more concerned with actually saying what I had to say than my nerves. Apparently I did pretty well because one of my professors told me later that I was better than most graduate students he's seen!
I was the first person in my section of four students to present, so it was also nice to sit back and listen to the other speeches without worrying about how they would compare to mine. The other presenters (all guys) talked about 19th century supreme court justice John Marshall, genocide in Sudan, and the physical difficulties of playing drums. Very enlightening.
After I finish my finals I'm going to attend the NEW leadership institute from May 13-17 at NDSU (for more information, visit http://appserv.mnstate.edu/whitede/conference/). Its basically a five-day seminar that promotes leadership in the community among women of diverse backgrounds. I've wanted to do this since I heard about it in my freshman biology class, but I've only had the chance to this year. According to what I've heard, it's supposed to be the most fun I've ever had in my life. I'll post an entry after the conference to let you know if that's true.
Other than that, I don't have much planned for the summer other than preparing for applying to grad school in the fall. I'm going to study for my GRE, and in July my parents and I are going to the east coast to look at some schools. I'll post on that trip too when we get closer to July.
So that's all the news I have for this second. Now I'm going to go eat lunch (one of my last in the old Kise because its shutting down tomorrow to start phase 2 of its construction) and then I'm going to literally lock myself in my dorm room and finish my papers. See ya!
