JESCIA HOFFMAN'S ARCHIVED DIARY

JANUARY 2007

January 29th, 2007. 5:33 p.m.

Hello all of my soon to be faithful readers! I've obviously been chosen to be a 'blogger' because I'm so incredibly awesome and interesting... Being this is my first entry on the new MSUM site, I think I'd like to introduce myself so you all can get to know me.

My name is Jescia (Jeh-see-uh, not Jessica. I am quite sick of and used to hearing that name...) Hoffman. I'm pretty positive my parents made the name up; I've googled it and only found German track records. I'm an only child with a very large extended family (somewhere around 30 aunts and uncles and 50+ cousins) from Mandan, ND. I have 19 piercings and  a growing number of tattoos - 6 are yoga/Buddhist-related, and one is Celtic. I have been practicing yoga since I was 15.

I am a junior (senior by credits) at MSUM, and am working towards a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing. It's a really fun major and I love the department and the people I get to hang out with every day. My studio space is my second home, so it's becoming more and more cozy. My friends and I even have a fridge and comfy chairs up in the mezzanine by our studio spaces. In the realm of the art world at school, I am the secretary (pretty much the president, but we decided that the presidential position is overrated, and all we need is a secretary and a treasurer) of the Drawing Guild. It's a really laid back group, but we do a lot of things, i.e. travel, sell art, exhibit stuff, drink coffee, goof around...

Outside of the Art Department, I am an honors student, work at the Write Site as a tutor (I also tutor drawing), and play in Percussion Ensemble, also known as Fuego Tropical during fall semester. I play steel drums and salsa music in the fall, and have been known to sing and dance and dress like an angry 8-year old girl during the spring (check out the Percussion Ensemble's website to see why...http://www.mnstate.edu/music/Percussion/percindex.html ) .

So as you may have noticed, I'm a busy girl, and it's just great. I live in an apartment a mile away from school, half a mile from the Wellness Center, where I will be going to yoga in an hour, and have a great roommate, Rosie (who is also on the Meet a Dragon page:  http://www.mnstate.edu/recruitment/students/rosie_pfenning.cfm), and just got two adorable, but rambunctious kittens, Stonewall Jackson and General Ambrose Burnside.

I think that's a good start to this blog. And Stonewall is trying to help my type now, so I best give him some attention....

Thanks for reading!

Jescia

p.s. I've noticed that I have amazingly pale legs in that picture... Horray for Minnesota!
