Major? Option? Emphasis? Oh, my!

Check out majors and minors

There’s an entire collegiate vocabulary that most high school students don’t quite understand. Once you’re fully indoctrinated into college life, you’ll get it. Until then, don’t worry about it. If you have a declared major coming into college, that’s great. If not, that’s better. What, you say? MSU Moorhead believes that students are better served by enrolling as “undecided majors” rather than choosing a major if they are not prepared to make this decision.

Did you know that “undecided” is the biggest “major” on campus? And 50-75 percent of all students change majors at one time in their college career? In other words, it’s okay to explore!

MSU Moorhead offers 69 undergraduate majors with 90 different emphases and options, 16 pre-professional studies programs, and 13 graduate degree programs. Included in our majors are 32 areas of teacher licensure preparation.

We can’t choose a major for you, so if you are undecided, you’ll have to do some figuring out on your own. However, we have abundant resources to help you sort through the process.
