Fargo and Moorhead are great places to live, pure and simple. But don’t take our word for it (although we are a little prejudiced).

Ranked #1
Numerous organizations and publications have ranked Fargo-Moorhead near the top for many years for everything from education, health and safety, to entrepreneurship, economic competitiveness and advancing careers. The Wall Street Journal writes: “Its downtown is home to hip clothing stores and a great boutique hotel. There's even a thriving art scene… good schools, reasonable housing prices, short commutes, the nation’s lowest crime rate and ample outdoor recreation." (August 2006).

All America City
Fargo-Moorhead was named an All-America City in 2000, joining just a handful of North Dakota and Minnesota communities to be so honored.

Even folks at the Los Angeles Times think the area is pretty trendy. Just check out a 2004 article by Times staff writer Stephanie Simon, who learned that the area is “cosmopolitan, improbably stylish, worldly, even luxurious.”

Safety in numbers
Morgan Quitno's Press repeatedly ranks the Fargo-Moorhead area as being a safe community, including the 2005 City Crime Ranking of being the 12th safest city in populations over 75,000; North Dakota has been ranked the “Safest State” for the eighth time in 12 years (March 2005); and Fargo-Moorhead is among the top 25 safest metropolitan areas in the entire nation (November 2003).

Downhill SkiingIt’s a little cold
But not all the time. Fargo-Moorhead residents enjoy the changing of the seasons—there are four of them! And we even appreciate winter because there’s lots to do in the snow. In fact, MSUM’s Regional Science Center, located 15 miles east of campus, has some of the best cross-country ski trails in the area.

Jobs galore
Major employers in the community are always on the lookout for bright students for part-time work, internships or full-time employment. Some companies to check out include Microsoft, US Bank Service Center, MeritCare Health System, American Crystal Sugar, Noridian, Integrity Windows and PRACS Institute.

Moorhead Skate ParkGetting around
There’s an old joke around here that nothing is ever more than 10 minutes away. While not 100 percent accurate, it’s darn close. Fargo-Moorhead is a pedestrian-friendly community, and it’s not uncommon to see bicyclists and roller bladers getting around the cities—even in the winter! We have a good public transportation system in the Metro Area Transit (MAT). In fact, under the MAT’s U-Pass program, college students can ride free all across the city.
