Some Recent Student Admitted to Graduate or Professional Schools

Jennifer Abrahamson (Horzay), 2004, was accepted into the Masters counseling program at St. Mary's University in Bismarck, ND.

Ashley Kjos, 2006, has been accepted into the PsyD Clinical Psychology program at Pacific University in Oregon.

Jenna Johnsoy, 2006, was accepted at the Clinical PsyD program at the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology in Argosy University in the Twin Cities.

Troy Ertelt, 2005, has been accepted into the doctoral program in Clinical Psychology at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND.

Amanda Herges, 2006, has been accepted into the PhD in Clinical Psychology program at Seattle Pacific University.

Angell Vollmer, 2006 was accepted at MSUM Counseling and Student Affairs masters program .

Sarah Musburger, 2006, has been admitted into an M.A. Clinical Program University of Indianapolis.

Natasha Bergerson, 2006, has been admitted into NDSU's Ph.D. program in social/health.

Alexi Nelson, 2006, was accepted at the Counseling program of Argosy University in Orange County CA.

Jamie Villela, 2006, has been admitted into the CDFS program for Couples/family Counseling at NDSU.

Jon Morgan, 2005, has been accepted into the Master's program at the University of Wisconsin- Stout in Risk Control.

Sheena Nelson, 2005, was accepted into the masters in counseling psychology program at Pacific University in Oregon.

Jason Nicholas, 2005, has been accepted into the Master's program at the University of Wisconsin- Stout in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.

Kari Peyton, 2005, has been accepted into the Master's program at the University of Wisconsin- Stout in School Psychology.


Red River Conference Spring 2006

A number of Psychology Department faculty (Bergstrom, Chalikia, Dalhouse, Kolotkin, Malone, Nawrot and Nickell) and students attended the 21st Red River Undergraduate Psychology Conference at NDSU on April 7th. Each year the conference rotates among the member institutions of the tri-college community (NDSU, Concordia College, and Minnesota State University Moorhead), and is organized by psychology students at the host institution. Fifteen MSUM students presented their research including: Karin Olson, Shauna Smykowski, Sterrryse Mayo, Melissa Nitschke, Lexi Kvansnicka, Brieanne Schmidt, Brianna Johnston, Raina Wald, Elise Pforr, Natasha Bergerson, Jill Boltjes, Courtney Rust, Kelsey Stoos, and Lindsay Johnson. A poster by Karin Olson, Shauna Smykowski, and Sterrryse Mayo titled “The development of depth from motion parallax in infancy” won the award for “Best Overall Poster” at the conference. Their research was sponsored by Dr. Lisa Nawrot.
 

Dr. Gary Nickell Spring 2005

Gary Nickell, Psychology, co-presented a research posters at the Society for Industrial and Organization Psychology conference in Dallas, May 4th. This research was conducted in collaboration with Dr. Verlin Hinsz and Dr. Ernest Park from the Psychology department at NDSU. The poster was titled “Work habits' role in the motivation of food safety behavior"


School Psychology Graduate Program Spring 2006

Olivia Melroe, Lisa Stewart and Peg Potter attended the Minnesota School Psychologist Association (MSPA) meeting in Plymouth, MN earlier this spring and recently attended the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) Annual Conference in Anaheim, CA.  Also attending MSPA were 12 first, second, and third year graduate students. Olivia Melroe is currently President Elect of MSPA. Lisa Stewart, along with graduate student Laura Lundquist, and Mari Bell and Mary Dosch from West Fargo Public Schools presented a paper, “Measuring and Impacting Vocabulary Growth in Kindergarten Students” at the NASP conference. Olivia Melroe did a presentation on “Intervention Progress Monitoring of American Indian Students” as part of a panel for the Native American Task Force. Also attending were graduate students Angie Bratvold, Amy Jo Green, Tracy Brown, Jennifer Spessard, and Ethan Schwehr.


Program Evaluation

A. Derick  Dalhouse, Psychology, was a member of a three person American Psychological Association, Accreditation Site Visit team that went to evaluate the Doctoral Program in Counseling Psychology at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK, February 23 and 24, 2006.
 

Psychonomics Fall 2005

Magdalene Chalikia, attended the 4th Auditory Perception Cognition and Action Meeting, as well as the 46th Meeting of the Psychonomic Society, in Toronto, Canada. She and graduate student Kirsten Westergard presented "Performance on a SPIN task by second-language learners:  Effects of age of acquisition and time of exposure" based on Kirsten's MA thesis.


Magdalene Chalikia also had a project accepted for presentation at the 26th International Congress of Applied Psychology, which will take place in Athens, Greece, July 16-21, 2006.  The title of the project is "Salary disparity, gender inequity, and regression remediation for a university's women faculty."
 

Northern Lights Conference Fall 2005

Peg Potter, Willie Hallford, and Gary Nickell, Psychology, along with 10 MSUM undergraduate students attended the Northern Lights Psychology Conference at UND in Grand Forks on October 15th. The featured speaker at this conference was the noted social psychologist Dr. Albert Bandura from Stanford University. In 2002, Bandura was ranked the 4th most eminent psychologist of the 20th Century, following only Skinner, Freud, and Piaget in the rankings. Three psychology majors, Peter Fox, Ashley Kjos, and Amanda Herges, presented 2 research posters at the conference.
