Integration of Metabolism
Chapter 21 Learning Objectives
By the end of the chapter you should be able to:
1) List the general mechanisms for the regulation of metabolism. Give examples of metabolic regulation in the major metabolic pathways.
2) Describe the key points of regulation and the important cross road metabolites.
3) Know the effects of hormones on each of the major metabolic pathways
4) List the metabolic pathways that occur in liver, brain, adipose, red blood cells, and muscle
5) Describe how the blood glucose homeostasis is maintained during starvation. Know which fuels which tissue is using during the various phases of starvation
6) Describe the specific effects of glucose levels on glucagon and insulin
7) Explain several examples of how insulin controls glucose homeostasis
