In 1981-82 Newson was a post-doctoral fellow at the Juilliard School of Music (NYC). He received his Doctor of Musical Arts from the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the John Hopkins University in 1977, where he also received his Master of Music in 1971. His bachelor’s degree in music was granted by Southern University (Baton Rouge, LA) in 1968. Newson began his current assignment at University of North Alabama last October, previous to that he was the UNA’s Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. He served as Dean for the College of Fine arts at Illinois State University from 1999-2004 and as Associate Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences at Bloomsburg University (Bloomsburg, PA). He has performed as a guest artist and featured soloist at numerous musical events in the United States and abroad. He will begin his campus visit on April 2nd.
