Samples will be the first candidate to visit. He will arrive on campus 
March 20 for two days of meetings with members of the campus 
and the community. Samples was awarded a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering 
from Oklahoma State University in 1983, where he received his master’s 
in 1979. He graduated from Clarkson College in 1969 with a B.S. degree 
in chemical engineering.

Samples has held administrative positions at UPJ since 1996. From 1989 
to 1996 he was the Director for Civil and Mechanical Engineering 
programs at West Point, where he began teaching in1979. He has authored 
five books in his field and numerous technical articles.
