Presidential Candidate Withdraws

Salmonella outbreak in Alamosa, CO, interferes with scheduled visit.

Dr. David Svaldi, President of Adams State College was to begin his visit Tuesday, April 1st.  He has withdrawn his candidacy due to a municipal water emergency in Alamosa, CO, where Adams State is located.  "It was the right thing to do when you're a leader of a campus that's in a crisis," Svaldi said.

Salmonella bacteria in the city water supply made hundreds of residents ill and forced the community and the campus to import bottled water and ban showers.  Classes were to resume today at Adams State.  There has been progress in cleaning up the municipal water supply, but use is limited to brief, cold showers.

MSU Moorhead presidential candidate Dr. Edna Szymanski, Provost at the University of Maine(Orono), started her two-day campus visit this morning.

Dr. Roosevelt Newson, Vice President for University Programs at the University of North Alabama(Florence), will begin his visit Wednesday, April 2nd.

There will be two opportunities for media contact with each candidate: the open forum for University and community members on the afternoon of the first day - and a scheduled media event on the second day.  For detailed information about each candidate and the campus schedule, please visit the candidate website at: http://www.mnstate.edu/president/presidential-search/candidates.cfm
