Re: Governor Pawlenty’s Budget Recommendation for FY2003

Governor Tim Pawlenty has announced his recommendation for addressing the state of Minnesota’s $356 million shortfall for the current fiscal year ending June 30, 2003.

The Governor recommends a recision of $50 million for state public higher education, half of which will be the responsibility of MnSCU.

MSUM’s share of the reduction is $1.23 million for FY 2003. We currently have $1.58 million in reserves.

MnSCU Vice Chancellor of Finance Laura King tells us, “The Governor has asked for quick passage of his reduction bill.  If by early February the House and Senate have not passed the bill, the Governor has the authority to unallot the funds necessary to balance the FY2003 budget.”
