Strategic Planning and Budgeting University Reaccreditation 2007 MSU Moorhead |
April 2000 Campus Update After July 1, 2000, our campus name will be Minnesota State University Moorhead April 28, 2000 TO: Campus Community FROM: President Barden RE: News and Issues The New Logo/Wordmark: As you know, the new logo/wordmark for Minnesota State University Moorhead was unveiled last week. It has come to my attention that some individuals have tried to use the logo by attempting to scan the image from the Continews, the Advocate, or the Forum publications. Please refrain from doing so. The university's graphic guidelines are currently being revised and these important standards outline the correct use of the logo/wordmark. Soon, the guidelines will be made available and at that time, you will be able to use the new graphic images. I anticipate that the process will move very quickly. To ensure a consistent, professional image for our university, it is necessary that we all use the correct version of the logo/wordmark, and use it in the appropriate ways. Thank you for your cooperation. Fourth of July Celebration: The Moorhead State University Fourth of July celebration takes on added significance this year. As I told you in my February campus update, the campus celebration will be the centerpiece of the 125th anniversary of Fargo-Moorhead. The year 2000 marks the 125th anniversary of the two cities and a year-long series of activities are planned to commemorate the event. The Fourth of July celebration is always a success because of the campus-wide volunteer participation. This year, it will be even more important to secure your help. A request for volunteers was circulated last week. I hope that you are able to participate in this exciting celebration! Spring Commencement: Spring 2000 Commencement promises to be a particularly interesting ceremony for several reasons. First, it is our last commencement ceremony as Moorhead State University. Second, at the ceremony, the new dragon medallion will be unveiled. The medallion, created by the excellent craftsmanship of Ordean Swenson, will be prominently displayed on the commencement stage. And third, the commencement speaker for this spring's ceremony is Dr. James Nagel, the J.O. Eidson Distinguished Professor of American Literature at the University of Georgia and a 1962 graduate of MSU. You may be familiar with Dr. Nagel's work. He wrote the book Hemingway in Love and War which was released as a major motion picture under the title In Love and War, starring Sandra Bullock and Chris O'Donnell. Dr. Nagel participated in writing the screenplay. President's Retreat: The annual President's Retreat is Monday-Tuesday, June 26-27, 2000. All members of the university community are invited to participate. The week of May 1, the retreat planning committee will distribute a campus-wide survey to collect your input on the topic of Moorhead State University's internal communication. The survey will be distributed via campus mail and the Office of the President web site at http://www.moorhead.msus.edu/president/ . Please take a few minutes to share your perspectives on this important topic. Legislative Update: The legislative process has stalled for more than a week as the House, Senate, and Governor Ventura negotiate the spending targets for the "money" bills, including the Capital Bonding Bill. As this process drags on, it means less time for negotiating our position in the bonding bills. As soon as the spending targets are established, we will resume our legislative "bill sitting" but the final work will likely be at a frenetic pace. Please check the Office of the President web site at http://www.moorhead.msus.edu/president/legislat.htm each Friday for legislative updates. |
