The diverse background of our Political Science faculty offer students a wide variety of expertise. Students have an opportunity to work closely with their faculty advisors to maximize their educational experience.  

 

Dr. Philip R. Baumann
Professor Baumann received his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and his Ph.D. from Michigan State University.  He was on the faculty at the State University of New York at Stony Brook before coming to MSUM.  He is a specialist in international relations, comparative politics, and theory and methodology.  In addition to his teaching, he is a Director of the Public Affairs Institute. Dr. Baumann can be reached by telephone at 218-477-2943, through his website  www.mnstate.edu/baumannp or by email at  baumannp@mnstate.edu.

 

 Dr. Andrew Conteh
A native of Sierra Leone, Professor Conteh attended Christ the King College West Africa in Sierra Leone, Oxford University in Great Britain, and received his Ph.D. from Kiev State University in the Soviet Union.  In addition to extensive academic experience around the world, Professor Conteh served as Sierra Leone's Ambassador to the Soviet Union from 1976 to 1981, as a delegate to the United Nations General Assembly, as Deputy High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, and as Senior Assistant Secretary in Sierra Leone's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  A specialist in international relations, his interests focus on international law.  In addition to his teaching, Professor Conteh advises the Model U.N. team and coordinates the MSUM Student Academic Confernece. Dr. Conteh can be reached by telephone at 218-477-4009, by email at

Dr. Barbara Headrick

 Dr. Paul Kramer
Dr. Paul Kramer, Department Chair, joined the faculty in 1997.  Dr. Kramer holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Minnesota.  Prior to joining MSUM, Kramer taught at the University of Oklahoma.  He is a specialist in American judicial politics and constitutional law.  Further, he serves as the University's pre-law advisor and director of the legal studies program.  Dr. Kramer can be reached through his website www.mnstate.edu/kramerp by telephone at 218-477-4022, or by email at kramerp@mnstate.edu.

Dr. James L. Danielson, Professor Emeritus
Dr. Danielson served the University from 1987-2006 as Political Science Professor and Director of the Public, Human Service and Health Administration master's program.  He continues to work with the University's Public Affairs Institute and can be reached by email at daniels@mnstate.edu.
