Mission Statement
The Mission of the MSUM Physical Plant is to excel in meeting the needs of the University and the goals of the University Strategic Plan, by effectively managing the maintenance and operation of the facilities and services under its jurisdiction to the extent resources allow. The Physical Plant will strive to effectively operate the facilities so a safe and reliable environment is maintained. The Physical Plant endeavors to achieve its mission by pursuing the following:
- Assurance that Physical Plant work is in compliance with applicable codes and regulations, technically appropriate, planned with consideration of total system effects and efficiently completed.
- Assistance and support for the campus-wide effort to ensure that all construction, modification and use of campus facilities is technically appropriate, minimizes life cycle costs and provides for efficient maintenance and operation.
- Communications with campus community regarding Physical Plant issues that is responsive, forthright and realistic.
- Use of an efficient system to initiate, monitor and document pertinent aspects of the work requested if and performed by the Physical Plant.
- Reduction in the number of unplanned interruptions in facility function and the resulting trouble callouts.
- Achieve energy conservation goals by 2006.
- Maintenance of safe, reliable access to MSUM facilities for users of the campus, with special priority for areas designated for use by the physically challenged.
- Restoration and maintenance of the appearance of campus grounds through campus-wide planning and enhance work efforts.
- Education of the campus and general community regarding facility maintenance and operation issues (these issues include cost, function, Physical Plant responsibilities and the role and responsibilities of the facility occupants).
Vision Statement
Our vision is to focus on establishing alliances and partnerships with all university users along with a full continuum of service and to provide a long range plan that will assure quality facilities for the future.

- Actively managing an outcome-based Physical Plant that coordinates services on campus and reaches individuals as required on campus.
- Continue seeking to balance quality and cost in meeting our mission increasing our commitment to education and training.
- Being functionally integrated, managing and coordinating key support functions such as finance, human resources, strategic planning, information management, and quality assurance and improvement across all operating units.
- Creating a culture of cooperation and appreciating for the vital role each individual plays in reaching our mission.
