Theodore Gracyk (Ph.D. University of California, Davis)

Professor

Joined the department in 1986. Specializes in philosophy of art, Kant,  Eighteenth Century philosophy, and cultural theory. Also teaches applied ethics and interdisciplinary courses. Published three books on aesthetics and popular music, as well as numerous articles.

Chang-Seong Hong (Ph.D. Brown University)  

Associate Professor. 
Joined the department in 1999. Specializes in  metaphysics, philosophy of mind, and epistemology. Also teaches   Anglo-American analytic philosophy, symbolic logic, Asian  philosophy, practical reasoning, and introduction to Western   philosophy. Published "Natural Kinds and the Identity of Property,"  "Autonomy with Causal Reduction," and other articles.

Arnold Johanson (Ph.D. Yale University)

Professor Emeritus 

A native of Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Joined the department in 1966  and retired in 1999. Specializes in philosophy of religion. Dr. Johanson  was three times chairperson of the Philosophy Department. He and his  wife Alice retired to Durham, North Carolina. He recently taught a course  "Baseball & Philosophy" for the Lifelong Learning Institute at Duke University.      ajohan@juno.com 

 

 

 

 

David Myers (Ph.D. University of Texas at Austin)

Professor Emeritus. 
  
Joined the department in 1972 and retired in  2004. Specializes in    ethics,  philosophy of religion, Marx and Nietzsche. Published New Soviet Thinking (Temple  University Press, 1990), Between Marx and Nietzsche (University  Press of America, 1986), and articles on Marx, ethics, and  problem of evil in a number of philosophical journals. Winner of the Academic Affairs Council Teaching Excellence Award, MSUM, 2003.
