Wednesday, August 20th, 2008
9:00 a.m. – 3 p.m. Welcome Tent and Dragon Move-In Crew (in front of Snarr Hall)
It’s a great day to be a Dragon! If you are moving in the residence halls, today is the day! Move into your room and get situated, because the fun is about to begin. The Dragon Move-In Crew will be outside the residence halls waiting to help you move everything from your car to your dorm. Refreshments will be provided by the MSUM Alumni Foundation to help you reenergize and cool down. Stop at the Welcome Tent to check into Orientation and to get any last minute questions answered.
11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Dragon Day – CMU
If you have not attended a Dragon Day, now is the time! Come to the Comstock Memorial Union where MSUM’s Peer Advisors will assist in registering you for fall classes.
3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Orientation Kick Off, A.K.A. SOC Talk #1 – Holmquist Slab
(Rain Site, Nemzek)
Rush to the SLAB, because this is the OFFICIAL start of your fall Orientation! Find your Student Orientation Counselor (SOC) on the Slab - the space between Holmquist and Grantham/Nelson. Your SOC will be holding up and hollering your group number. This will be your first introduction to the MSUM college and campus, where you will meet hundreds of new people!
5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Faculty and first year student dinner– Kise Commons
After a long morning of unloading and moving in, enjoy a relaxing dinner in Kise Commons and get to know some of MSUM’s amazing faculty members and staff. Come try out all the entrees, desserts, and beverages that Kise has to offer (meals catered by Sodexho Services).
7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. “Welcome to Your New Community” Residence Hall Activities
Settle into your floor community, meet your new neighbors, and get to know your resident assistant. The get-to-know-each-other activities will help you become familiar with your new community and will provide you with many opportunities to get involved!
9:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Assistant “Dating Dr.” – Center for the Arts Hansen Theater
This Orientation event is free to students and families. Del McNeal will talk to students about communicating, connecting as a couple, falling “in love” after only meeting online, being a “true friend”, a “nice guy” or “good gal”, who controls relationships, basic human differences between the sexes, the “attraction factor”, what to do if you are dating a horrible kisser, and more!
10:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. Late Night Mall Activity – Main Mall (Rain Site, Center for the Arts)
After a busy day this is a great time to come hang out and meet even more people! Plus there will be food and some great inflatable games sponsored by Dragon Entertainment Group.

7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Continental Breakfast in Kise Commons
Get energized with a nutritious grab-and-go breakfast as you prepare for an exciting day full of fun, learning and games that will keep you busy from dawn until dusk!
9:15 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. University Convocation (mandatory) – Center for the arts, Hansen Theatre
All of you are expected to attend this kickoff event for the incoming class of 2008. Convocation is a ceremony that celebrates the official beginning of your college experience. PLUS, by attending, you will have the opportunity to win 4 FREE credits of tuition (that’s a lot of money, people).
10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Academic Department & Undeclared Meeting with 1st year students
After the University Welcome Convocation, follow a SOC to your field of interest. Each major is divided up into a particular college, so listen for your major at convocation and you will be taken to that particular college’s social. This will be a great opportunity for you to talk to professors who can tell you what to expect during your first year. You will also meet students who sharethe same interests as you. If you are undeclared, that is A-Okay, because we have a place for you, too!
11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Blazing BBQ – Campus Maill

It’s time for Orientation’s famous Blazing BBQ.
This meal will fill you up with summer foods like burgers, brats, fruit, chips, and soda. Don’t miss this mighty feast - it’s free, it’s delicious, it’s amazing!
1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Hot Topics Sessions #1 – CMU
Learn what being a Dragon is all about!
This is time to form relationships among your fellow classmates, faculty, and professional staff members. Find helpful information on tools and skills you need for success at MSUM, including sports and intramural programs, personal safety, campus involvement, studying abroad, the Dragon Core and much more!
3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. D2L & HLTH 122 Orientation & overview #1 (mandatory) – Center for Arts, Hansen Theatre
Meet your instructors and T.A. to learn about the expectations for hlth 122, a required class for all incoming freshmen. Learn how to utilize our online D2L system and get all of your questions and concerns answered.
5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Dinner in Kise Commons
Enjoy your first dinner in Kise on your own, or grab some friends and make it a date! You will need the energy for a great night of dancing, game playing, and prize winning!
7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. Hawaiian Dance – Holmquist SLAB (Rain Site, Nemzek)
Wear your crazy Hawaiian outfits and hula your way to the SLAB, where you will dance the night away with our MSUM’s own DJ and SOC, Kyle Price. Plus, vote for the SOC you want to see in the dunk tank at Tournament Thursday!
11:00 p. m. – 1:00 a.m. Tournament Thursday – Nemzek
If you thought the night was almost over, think again! After the Hawaiian Dance, gather in Nemzek for your college Pep Rally! Here, you can meet our talented, athletes, win BIG in the Cash Box, and get the chance to play a few rounds of DEAL or NO DEAL with MSUM’s own Athletic Director, Doug Peters. Stick around for free food, plenty of prizes, dodge ball tournaments, Guitar Hero, Sumo wrestling and MORE! Whether you’re interested in Intramural sports, club teams like lacrosse, or just want to earn the right to be called MSUM’s #1 Fan, NOW is the time and NEMZEK is the place to get all your questions answered. 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Tips for Eating Healthy – Kise Commons
Worried about that freshman 15? Have no fear, you can learn to avoid temptation and eat healthy while living on your own and eating in Kise. Good habits such as eating healthy, exercising regularly and getting enough sleep are key, but more stay-fit secrets can only be heard at this event!
10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. D2L & HLTH 122 Walk in Lab #2 – CB and IT labs
(Sessions at 10, 10:20, 10:40, 11, 11:20, 11:40, 12, 12:20, 12:40 p.m./split by TA assignment)
Ease your mind for Monday’s assignments by having a hands on opportunity to explore D2L with your T.A. and getting your questions answered. Ask your SOC to find out your time to attend.

Be here to learn necessary tips for your survival on-campus. Your area director will let you know ways to save some time, money, and energy. The all-hall meeting will give you the information you need to know for your residence hall experience to be successful.
7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Nontraditional, off campus & transfer social – CMU 227
Feel like you are out of the loop living off campus? Come to the social and meet other students in same boat. Here you can chill together, have some chow and get acquainted with students, like you, who are new to campus.
8:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Comedian Sheng Wang – CA Hansen Theatre The event is free to students and families.
Sheng Wang is a Taiwanese Texan who developed and
honed his comedy in the thriving standup community of the San Francisco Bay Area. He performs jokes based on personal experiences with intense honesty and ill logic.
His refreshingly affable stage presence combined with a healthy penchant for absurdity and self-deprecation make his act universally accessible and hilarious.
9:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. Dragons After Dark – CMU
Be a Dragon Hero! This event brings all of your favorite super heroes and villains together for a
night of free food, games and prizes! Be a Dragon Hero and show your creativity by participating in
our community service project.

11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Sidewalk Café – Residence Halls sidewalk (SLAB) (Rain Site, Nemzek)
Join us on outside of the residence halls to get a dose of some of the things the Fargo-Moorhead and MSUM community can offer you. Free food, coupons, and flyers make this event a MUST!
11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Sandlot Volleyball Tournament – Dahl Hall Courts
Bump, Set, and Spike! all afternoon with Campus Crusade for Christ and all your new buddies! Join this volleyball tournament by talking to your SOC about joining a team or making your own!
11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Green Fee Concert – Holmquist SLAB
Come jam with local bands from the MSUM community between volleyball games. Between bands there will be treats and refreshments, games and an opportunity to win prizes and a bike clinique. The Fargo-Moorhead Community Bike WorkShop (FMCBW) will be providing you with tune-ups, road side repair tips, rules of the road, bike safety, and bus/bike information. Plus, you’ll have the chance to meet some groovy, earth-friendly merchants. Come soak up some rays, relax, and enjoy your Saturday afternoon on the SLAB.
7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Campus Capers – CA Hansen Theatre
Lights, camera, ACTION! Hustle over to Hansen Theatre for MSUM’s own version of Saturday Night Live. You will be on the edge of your seat laughing, crying, and tinkling your pants as the SOCs perform a variety of skits and offer their words of wisdom.

and Mocktails Night
Grab one of our delicious mocktails and enjoy listening to your fellow classmates tear up the stage all night long. Don’t be afraid to steal the show with a song of your own!

Meet some of MSUM’s multicultural students and enjoy a delicious lunch. Also, find out
how you can get involved in the great multicultural organizations on your campus.

All new MSUM freshman receiving loans through the Federal Direct, SELF, or other supplemental loan programs MUST attend Entrance Loan Counseling before receiving the first loan disbursement. Loan checks are not released until Entrance Loan Counseling attendance is documented. Entrance Loan Counseling can be done on the internet at: www.dl.ed.gov OR by attending this session(either will meet the requirement). Remember, loan checks cannot be used for payment of your tuition bill until Entrance Loan Counseling attendance is documented.

Learn how to budget your money and set goals.
2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Safe Zone LGBTQ Social – Women’s Center
Please join members and supporters of Safe Zone, Women’s Center, LGBTQ students, faculty, and staff for an Ice Cream Social at the Women’s Center-154 Bridges. Meet other LGBTQ folks and allies on campus and learn about additional resources and organizations on campus and in the community.
3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Sorority Tea in the CMU Comstock Room
Go Greek! Learn about the different sororities on campus and what they have to offer you.
This is another chance for you to mingle with current and future students and members.
7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Residence Hall Floor Meeting- Must Attend
Race to the residence halls and take this opportunity to meet your new hall-mates. Learn all about MSUM’s policies, expectations, and procedures for on-campus living. You will be held accountable for these rules while living on campus, better to learn them before it’s too late!
This is a great opportunity to turn your floor-mates into friends and family.
