MSUM Scholarships

The application forms for the Upper-class Scholarship and Upper-class Minority Scholarship are available through the Financial Aid web site.  One faculty recommendation is needed, along with the application and required essay. Financial Aid Office: On the campus, Owens Hall 107 or call: 218.477.2251

Tri-County Hospital Foundation has a $1,000 annual scholarship available for advanced or graduate level nursing students.
Eligibility Criteria are the following: For more information contact

  • Has been accepted in an advanced or graduate level health care program with career goals in the health care field
  • Currently is or has been a resident in the service area of Tri-County Hospital, Wadena, MN, or has an immediate family member who resides in the TCH service area.
  • Potential to return to the service area and/or within the Tri-County Hospital system.
  • Has demonstrated leadership ability, initiative, and active participation in work, volunteerism, and/or community activity.
  • Has a G.P.A. of at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent, or meet the minimum G.P.A. requirements established for the college or university's academia if it is higher.
  • Submits the required application materials on or before the deadline date of August 1.

The following two scholarships (each $2000) are awarded bi-annually.

Cynthia Hunt-Lines Scholarship
Deadline: July 1
Award: $2000
Qualifications:
• Single parent at least 21 years old (at least one dependent)
• Accepted to or enrolled in baccalaureate or masters program in nursing in Minnesota or North Dakota
• MNA member if RN

MNAF Scholarship
Deadline: July 1
Award: $2000 (two awards per year)
Qualifications:
• MNA member if RN
• Accepted to or enrolled in baccalaureate program in nursing in Minnesota

The Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program (NELRP) offers registered nurses substantial assistance to repay educational loans in exchange for service in eligible facilities located in areas experiencing a shortage of nurses. Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program Overview 

Professional Nursing Societies: if you are a member, contact for your specialty area of practice. 

Various employers offer Tuition Reimbursement Programs.  Contact the personnel office to see if your employer does.

Resources for Undergraduate Nursing Students

Active Duty Nurse Corps Educational Benefits provides full scholarships for students intereseted in becoming a Nurse Anesthetist as well as the Health Professions Loan Repayment Program in Exchange for active duty service in the U.S. Army.

American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) awards $1,500 per academic year to students who complete baccalaureate or graduate degree programs in nursing.

American Assembly for Men in Nursing Foundationand Johnson & Johnson's Campaign for Nursing's Future are offering a new $1,000 scholarship program for male students pursuing professional nursing education programs.

Army ROTC Nurse Officer Program provides scholarship, leadership, and job opportunities to prospective undergraduate college nursing students.

Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. awards $50,000 annually in scholarships at the national, regional, and local levels to minority nursing students.

ExceptionalNurse.com awards a $250 scholarship to a qualified student with a disability. Preference is given to undergraduates.

Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities offers scholarships for graduate and undergraduate students attending a HACU Member or Partner college or university.

The Indian Health Service (IHS) administers a program to help repay undergraduate and graduate loans of health professionals in return for full-time clinical service in Indian health programs.

Maryland State Nursing Scholarship is available to Maryland residents seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree in nursing.

National Alaska Native American Indian Nurses Association (NANAINA) awards 10 student members enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate nursing program with $500 Merit Awards annually.

National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) awards $2,000 annually to students earning a master's degree in a maternal-child nursing program and $1,000 to student members enrolled in any level nursing program, including baccalaureate.

National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) offers a Student Nurse of the Year award to an NBNA member in pursuit of a baccalaureate or other advanced nursing degree.

National Health Service Corps, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has information about scholarships and loan repayment programs for health care professionals who practice in a medically underserved area.

National Student Nurses' Association offers a scholarship program for students enrolled in baccalaureate, generic doctorate, generic master's, diploma, or associate degree programs.

Nurse Loan Repayment and Scholarship Program administered by The Division of Nursing at HRSA, is available for registered nurses. Participants must serve at a health facility in an underserved area to receive loan repayments.

Nurses' Educational Funds, Inc. offers a scholarship for nurses enrolled in an accredited master's or doctoral level nursing program.

Oncology Nursing Society Foundation awards academic scholarships specifically for students pursuing bachelor's degrees.

Promise of Nursing Undergraduate Education Scholarship awards $1,000 to $5,000. This scholarship is offered through The Foundation of the National Student Nurses' Association.

Tafford Uniforms is doing its part to support the development of this critical profession. Beginning in June 2007, Tafford will award two (2) $1,000 scholarships each semester to nursing students in accredited US nursing programs.
