The Wind Ensemble at MSUM

Minnesota
State University Moorhead's Department of Music has an award
winning Wind Ensemble. Students attending MSU Moorhead can
enroll in the Bachelor of Music Performance degree program
and study with a concentration in wind instrument. For information
concerning the Wind Ensemble or the Bachelor of Music Performance

Auditions for Wind Ensemble
The MSU Moorhead Wind Ensemble consists of approximately fifty-two
players who are selected each year by audition. Although many
members of the group major in music studies; being a music
major is not a requirement for audition. For information regarding
auditions for the MSU Moorhead Wind Ensemble, please feel

Tours
The Wind Ensemble has appeared at the Minnesota
Music Education Convention in 1980, 1983, and 1992. Tour destinations
often encompass the states of North Dakota, Montana, Minnesota
and Canada. The ensemble has also traveled to Chicago several
times during tour in order to hear the Chicago Symphony, go
to museums and to attend White Sox games. Past international
tour destinations have included Nova Scotia (1984), Spain
(1989, 1992, 2002, 2004) and China (1994). These international
tours enable the members of the wind ensemble to see the sights,
get to know other ensemble members better, play for other
audiences and learn about different cultures.
Music
The ensemble performs original wind band music from Mozart
and the music of the French National Guard Band of the early
15th century to music of the 20th century. Composers such
as Stravinsky, Grainger, Colgrass, Dollarhide, Holsinger and
other modern day composers are emphasized.

Dr.
John Tesch
Dr.
John Tesch conducts the MSU Moorhead Wind Ensemble,
Concert Band, and teaches low brass instruments and
conducting here at MSU Moorhead. He is also the principal
trombonist for the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra.
Dr. Tesch received his Bachelor of Arts degree from
the University of Northern Colorado. He was awarded his
Master of Music degree from Indiana University and his
D.M.A. from the University of Arizona. Dr. Tesch is
also the conductor and music director for the Lake Agassiz
Concert Band, a community ensemble that rehearses every
Tuesday evening at MSUM.
